We are currently seeking to hire a Machinery Maintenance Mechanic at Naval Station Norfolk (VA) to support a dynamic U.S. Navy Directorate specializing in design, research, development, testing, and evaluation of experimental watercraft for its DoD clients. SA-TECH is ensuring performance and fleet readiness by providing full-spectrum O&M support of specialized combatant craft, patrol boats, Special Operations Forces platforms and coastal craft.


This skilled mechanic will assist in the installation, service, repair, and testing of marine inboard and outboard engines. All work will be performed safely in accordance with industry standards and best practices. The mechanic will troubleshoot equipment onboard naval small boats and test craft, check functionality of newly installed equipment, and evaluate systems' performance under actual operating conditions.


Work Conditions:

  • Conditions will vary as work will be performed outdoors in a marine environment as well as in industrial facilities.
  • Duties of the position will require approximately 70% standing, 5% walking, 15% sitting, 5% reaching, and 5% lifting.
  • The mechanic must have the ability to carry materials weighing upwards of 75 lbs. with help from others and 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • May need to work outside normal hours of operations as mission/fleet support requirements dictate.
Requirements:

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with gas and diesel engines.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of direct military or maritime industrial mechanical experience.
  • U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, or related trade school training a plus.
  • OEM Certifications a plus.
  • Must be organized and able to multi-task.
  • Working in a team environment so strong interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to read, write and follow technical directives correctly.
  • Current Driver's License required; must be able to be insured through company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Secret Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
