Job purpose

The Injection Molding Process Engineer is a "hands-on" position that plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing equipment and processes to produce high quality injection molded product. The Process Engineer is responsible for coordinating the molding efforts on new program launches, setting up and/or revising manufacturing processes and assisting in problem solving and continuous process improvements. This position also mentors and provides training to other injection molding personnel.

Main accountabilities and tasks
  • Responsible for the operational readiness of injection molding machines and its support processes.
  • Responsible for setting up molding tools and create setup parameters.
  • Ensure that quality specifications are met and optimize ongoing processes on machines.
  • Demonstrated ability to start-up, operate and shut down molding process related equipment. Must be able to work independently on new process.
  • Lead implementation of new injection molding processes and equipment.
  • Lead troubleshooting activities of injection molding machines and its support processes.
  • Independently carry out minor repairs and maintenance on the molding machines and peripherals.
  • Work with equipment and material vendors to resolve machine and equipment issues.
  • Monitor and report issues with injection molds, make recommendations for refurbishment based on production factors such as cycles, process capability and tooling history.
  • Develop and implement process improvements and technological upgrades.
  • Identify and implement cost optimization and reduction initiatives.
  • Train staff for molding processes and provide work instructions and manuals.
  • Maintain high quality standards through on-the-floor interaction with employees to ensure quality and accuracy in each step of the production process.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to process technicians, operators and other molding personnel.
  • Keep machines and the entire production environment clean and organized.
  • Ensure that all business activities conform to local laws and regulations and are following company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations regarding environmental protection, fire prevention as well as occupational health and safety.

Desired experience and qualifications

Work experience: 5 years in an injection molding manufacturing environment

Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical or industrial engineering

Other:
  • Experience in processing of thermoplastics, robotics, automation and hot runner systems.
  • Strong and diverse technical background in injection molding processing, tooling, equipment, materials, manufacturing and quality.
  • Self-starter must be able to work with little direction and with a high level of self-motivation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in an interruption-prone environment
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong TEAM and LEAD mentality required

Physical requirements
  • In order to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation, the employee must be able to see, hear, talk and use hands and fingers to operate computer hardware and peripherals as well as equipment and tools for basic assembly, packaging and logistics. Employee must be able to lift up to 55lbs on a regular basis as required for packing, shipping and inventory management. Frequent to constant standing and walking throughout the workday. Steel toe shoes are required. If the employee will be exposed to loud noise and/or eye hazards, they will be required to wear hearing and/or eye protection which will be provided.
