Job Description:

Brunel is currently searching for an Engineering Manager for direct hire with our client located in Houston, Texas.

This Houston based position is responsible for the Engineering Management for Green Hydrogen Projects with a focus on delivery stages. Key emphasis is the ability to lead a fast-paced engineering design team to bring composite solutions from concept through to implementation.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Engineering Manager will lead the delivery of all technical engineering, managing a multi-disciplinary owners engineering team to effectively support project development and execution, ensuring the work undertaken by the engineering contractor/s meets the project expectations on safety, quality, technical compliance, cost, and schedule.

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for effective communication and exchange of information across several stakeholder groups to ensure the technical aspects of the project are delivered in a timely manner in preparation for project phase gates including FID, detailed design, construction, and commissioning.

Key accountabilities will include:
  • Lead the engineering management of the project through FEED completion, detailed design, execution, commissioning, and start-up phases.
  • Accountable for managing engineering delivery and handover according to project objectives and Fortescue's requirements.
  • Accountable for the development and management of Value Improvement Practices (VIP).
  • Accountable for the engineering technical management of change process including technical clarifications, TQs and scope changes between the engineering contractor/s and Fortescue.
  • Direct-line management of Lead Engineers, maintaining clear lines of communications on project progress and issues, including chairing engineering meetings and workshops to inform, coordinate and manage engineering input and outcomes.
  • Co-ordinate inter-discipline communication and cooperation, and effective integration with other project functions (e.g., procurement, construction, document control, etc.) and issue resolution.
  • Interface management between the Fortescue's engineering team and other project stakeholders.
  • Responsible for scope definition and manages the planning, resourcing, and scheduling of all engineering related activities.
  • Responsible for development of frameworks to measure project metrics, including monitoring and reporting engineering activities.
  • Accountable for overall design technical assurance and Safety-in-Design processes for the project(s), including adherence to applicable Legislation, Standards, and Principals Policies and Procedures.
  • Engage and manage resources, including contractors, to produce outcomes required to support development of the project.
  • Perform and present gated design reviews at specific times in the design/execution lifecycle of the project.
  • Develop and coach engineering team members to help provide further growth opportunities including maximization of performance and culture across the team to provide a thriving environment.
  • Develop innovative solutions for cost effective and efficient project delivery.
  • Working effectively with office and field based technical teams to accomplish project objectives.
  • Commit to the Quality Policy, procedures, and work instructions relevant to all work scopes.
  • Participate and cooperate with internal / external audits as required.
  • Coordination and facilitation of meetings across various time zones.
  • Champion and demonstrate clear understanding of the Fortescue Values.

Qualifications, skills, and experience required:
  • Engineering degree in a relevant field.
  • Professional Engineer, or similar professional registration/certification highly desirable.
  • 15+ years of major capital projects/technical management experience in energy, O&G and / or process infrastructure - experience with hydrogen is highly desirable.
  • Project execution experience using EP/EPC structures.
  • Demonstration of ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of critical design workshops including HAZOP, HAZID and 3D Model/Design review.
  • Proven leadership skills, including managing, developing, planning, trouble shooting and motivating diverse teams to achieve project objectives and deliver to agreed budget, cost and quality with a strong commitment and prioritization of HSE and Process Safety considerations.
  • Experience in managing the delivery of complex engineering tasks, ideally with exposure to renewable energy, hydrogen, water, and/or process engineering infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in successfully engaging and managing external consultants and contractors.
  • Proven negotiation skills that ensure all stakeholders support and accept the core business goals, and project deliverables.
  • A demonstrated ability to quickly get across the details, to develop a thorough understanding of issues.
  • Ability to problem solve and capacity to generate creative solutions utilizing team or external resources to deal with project challenges and opportunities.
  • Ability to understand and work successfully with senior management and peers and apply appropriate cultural sensitivity in all business dealings and communications.
  • Strong sense of urgency and commitment to quality outcomes
  • Ability to create and articulate the corporate vision influencing organizational values, individual and group goals, and management systems.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in individual and group situations.
  • Candidates must be able to bring a flexible mindset, challenge traditional thinking, and be prepared to work outside of their comfort zone.
  • Candidates MUST be authorized to work in the United States, sponsorship is not available for this position.

Offer:

Base salary commensurate with experience, plus 30% STI. Excellent benefits effective from day one with 401K matching. Relocation is not available for this position.
