YANCEY COUNTY is seeking a qualified individual for the following position:
TITLE: Tourism Development Director Full-Time Position
DESCRIPTION: Plans, organizes and directs tourism operations; establishes administrative and communications processes and procedures; establishes work priorities; provides advice and consultation to project staff as needed; creates a team approach in operational endeavors. Directs and works closely with the Board in developing and implementing a comprehensive marketing and advertising plan including state and national advertising; meets with advertising representatives; reviews vendor relationships for cost, performance and quality of service; oversees creation of print, television, radio and on-line ads; uses data and research to make recommendations to the TDA Board based on cost-benefit analysis. Researches, develops and recommends department operating policies and procedures; oversees implementation of policies by staff, evaluates effectiveness; makes changes as needed. Directs the preparation of the annual budget; reviews expenditures to ensure adherence to budget and marketing and advertising plan; assures monies spent on tourism promotion result in increased visitation and visitor spending. Plans campaigns as necessary to fund strategic plans. Manages contracted services and in-house publications; writes contracts; oversees vendors and works with department staff to manage contracted services such as media buys, creation of publications and website e-marketing campaigns. Initiates and conducts short- and long-range strategic planning in concert with Board; works with County leaders and the TDA Board to develop goals and tactics for increasing the number of visitors to the County and growing visitor spending. Directs and oversees development of the annual marketing plan; researches and solicits input from staff on creative strategies to improve, enhance and expand the services. Serves as staff to the TDA Board; develops agendas and oversees minutes of meetings; works with and recommends policies and practices to benefit tourism in the County; makes presentations and recommendations on tourism programs.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in business management, communication, journalism, marketing or related degree, and 3-5 years experience in Tourism/Hospitality/Marketing field or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Must possess the visual acuity to work with data and figures, to develop and manage the budget, to operate a computer terminal, and to read extensively.
LOCATION: Primary duty station for the position is the Yancey County Finance Office located in Burnsville, N.C.
SALARY: Pay Rate dependent upon education/experience.
