What you'll Do


  • Definition of integration architecture design principles to guide and govern how integration solutions will be designed and implemented to lower costs and improve application maintainability, flexibility, scalability, robustness, performance, and ability to troubleshoot. These may include principles such as: insulating the end applications from the variability of the customer, minimizing failure points by limiting the number of data flows, isolating customer impacting changes from other customers by increasing the number of maps, etc.
  • Define and implement strategies for integrating disparate operating system environments
  • Analyzes current integration architectures for opportunities for large efficiency gains in the application administration/management or opportunities for large improvements in robustness or performance. Designs and/or recommends tools and/or customizations that realize those gains
  • Provides the technical analysis, architecture design and/or architecture review of all intermediate to large integration projects. Works to ensure all designs are compliant with established integration principles and adhere to or move the company closer to the integration architecture strategy with each incremental change. Builds organizational awareness and acceptance of integration principles
  • Drive out the key global business requirements and translate into workable requirements containing process information, data flows, comprehensive functional specifications and test plans - challenging any requests that may be unreasonable or unnecessary - and ultimately ensuring that project deliverables are met according to requirements
  • Responsible for working with the application groups to plan and execute integration strategies necessary for the integration of information or functions between key application services and systems
  • Maintains awareness of emerging integration technologies, supporting infrastructure layers, industry trends and vendor architecture strategies. Provides leadership in the research and evaluation of proposed new integration technologies for applicability to the company, performance, reliability, cost, integration requirements, and determines place in company's software architecture strategy. Mentors team members on new technologies
  • Provides support for launch team and for data disruptions / loss for sites in production. Also acts as tier III support for technically complex, production critical application outages/slowdowns
  • Advises on and supports customer integration meetings and EDI coordination activities, developing / assisting with the development of sales presentation materials and RFQ responses
  • Performs other duties and assists other staff as necessary or as directed by management.
  • Provides off-hours support as required.
  • Run Daily Stand ups and lead/participate in the planning exercise.
  • Works closely with Functional/Systems Analyst to develop and document technical designs from functional requirements/specifications, considering architectural, as well as programmatic aspects of the agreed-upon solution. Prepares and validates time estimates for program modifications, enhancements, new application software, or any other technology requirements. Follows appropriate internal processes, as well as established industry standards for software design.
  • Develops software based on approved design. Writes new programs or creates modifications to existing applications as necessary based on project requirements. Follows appropriate internal processes, as well as established industry standards for software coding, documentation, and code management. Uses PDM, SEU, SDA, interactive debugger, and any other application development productivity tools.
  • Creates test plans, test files, and scripts for unit testing through integration testing. Performs testing as required & documents results. Follows appropriate internal processes, as well as established industry standards for software testing.
  • Follows appropriate change management and implementation procedures. Ensures that appropriate technical and functional documentation is prepared.
  • Coordinates and implements new EDI methods and systems and enhances and upgrades existing systems. Designs and create user file definitions, maps, and trading partner relationships. Works with both external and internal EDI customers to support, design and develop current and future EDI initiatives.
  • Primarily supports WMS/TMS/EDI and other integration applications. Perform majority of level two support (on-call or after hours) on critical applications within the Americold organization, escalating as required.
  • Provide technical leadership to the team and aides in making the best decision for the business.
  • Provide leadership and hands on management for EDI upgrades and implementations.
  • Partner with Project teams, Sustainment teams, and pure technical teams to ensure seamless maintenance of the EDI landscape.
  • Prepare and deliver activity and progress reports for presentation to the Americold management team.
  • Recommend any additional hardware or software requirements needed for successful EDI deployments, configuration, or maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

What Experience and Education You Need


  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

What Could Set You Apart


  • 7+ years of relevant programming experience required, including experience with IBM Sterling B2B Integrator v 6.1.1 or higher, IBM Sterling File Gateway v 6.1.1 or higher, IBM Sterling Secure Proxy for Unix, and IBM Sterling Control Center.
  • 1+ years of experience with AS/400 / iSeries desired
  • Thorough understanding of EDI translations software required.
  • Strong understanding of EDI concepts including transaction set structure, standards compliance, and communication concepts required.
  • Working knowledge of FTP/AS2/XML and other communications protocols required.
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Thorough understanding of the EDI translator, the ability to trouble shoot EDI maps as well as create and maintain mappings.
  • Experience with JDA/RedPrairie and Koerber WMS and Integrator is desired
  • Experience with Oracle integrations file mapping a plus
  • Experience with warehouse management systems and transportation management systems a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, with frequent interruptions
  • Requires several hours per day of sitting, getting up and down from chairs, and reaching, or bending
  • Requires manual dexterity with normal hand and finger movements for typical office work
  • Talking, hearing, and seeing are important elements of completing assigned tasks
  • May require travel by automobile and airplane for business
  • May require visits to warehouse operations in temperatures at or below freezing
  • May require carrying loads related to travel and the occasional lifting, carrying, positioning, and/or moving of objects weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Requires the use of various electronic tools
