Required Certificates and Licenses: Texas Gifted and Talented Supplemental (K-12) Certification



Residency Requirements: This position is virtual and strongly prefer residents of Texas. May consider residents of surrounding states (NM, OK, AK or LA). This position could include travel up to 20% of the time for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or as required by the school.


The Gifted & Talented Program Teacher is an advocate for the gifted/talented program within the schooland community. The position provides resources/support to all stakeholders, with the goal of student success.

This is a full-time position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.




ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.



Instructional:



* Collaborates with classroom teachers to provide support for specialized, differentiated instruction, with a focus on depth and complexity, as well as enrichment activities for the gifted/talented students in their classroom;


* Serves as an advocate and resource for parents, teachers, support staff, administrators, and the community;


* Remains cognizant of current research, and available resources in the field; Attends workshops and conferences as necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the job;


* Assists counselors in promotion of concurrent enrollment and scholarships for gifted students;


* Asynchronously supports objectives, including composing/sending emails, preparing learning plans, and using data to determine student needs;


* Collaborates with local/regional/national teams and teacher trainers regarding instruction, resources, interventions, and data-driven decision making;


* Creates videos and other virtual tools to highlight strategies for G/T instruction;


* Collaborates with teachers to provide support for class projects;


* Collaborates with students to provide support as the students develop innovative products and sophisticated performances that reflect individuality and creativity



Relationship Building:



* Makes self-open and available to be coached on a regular basis with administrators;


* Establishes and maintains positive rapport with families and regularly communicates with students and learning coaches/parents;


* Responds to students, parents, and colleagues in timely manner;


* Attends PLCS and other staff meetings for assigned grade level and school



Other Essential Functions:



* Participates in social and educational activities for students and families, including sponsorship of virtual clubs, outings, marketing events or other extracurricular activities as required;


* Travels to testing sites to proctor state exams.



Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.



MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



* Bachelor's degree AND


* Three (3) years of teaching experience


* Texas Gifted and Talented Supplemental (K-12) Certification


* Strong interpersonal skills emphasizing tact, patience and courtesy; ability to establish a professional, effective rapport with all stakeholders


* Experience working with gifted and talented students


* Able to adapt learning plans to meet different needs and learning styles; create an instructional and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth


* Communicate effectively both orally and in writing


* Demonstrates the use of good judgment in decision-making


* Great organizational and time management skills


* Customer service orientation


* Understanding of applicable sections of the State Education Code as well as the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented students, and other pertinent regulations


* Willingness and ability to obtain additional licensing as required

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook as well as Internet research methods and report writing techniques; Utilizes computer software associated with curriculum


* Ability to clear required background check


* Pedagogical knowledge of content being taught and ability to apply critical thinking


* Knowledge of state content standards and ability to align those with the K12 curriculum


* Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes


* Ability to problem solve independently and have a high level of organization


* Understanding of interdependency of deadlines on multiple projects and able to act to preserve integrity on other people's deadlines


* Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week


* Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school


* Ability to travel as required (on average once per month and/or approximately 25% of the time) for face- to face professional development, student testing, and as required by school


* Access to reliable high-speed internet


* Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms


* Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs and curriculum



DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



* Master's degree in education or related field


* English Language Learner Certification


* Experience working with proposed age group


* Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology


* Experience teaching in an online (virtual) environment


* Experience with Newrow, or other online platforms
