Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE


  • Position in the BAC R&D Lab located in Jessup, Maryland

  • Performs a wide variety of tasks in support of the Global Engineering team's technology and innovation initiatives

  • Works in a team environment to support the operation and maintenance of all aspects of the R&D Lab including the test facility, equipment, tools and instrumentation

  • Assembling, installing, repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electronic control systems used for testing heat rejection equipment and components.

  • Inventory, maintain, and calibrate all test equipment associated with lab testing

  • Learn thermal testing concepts and develop the essential mechanical, electrical and computer skills necessary for successful completion of Global Engineering test projects

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Associates Degree in Electronics Engineering preferred

  • 2+ years of experience in the electronic, electrical or electromechanical trades preferred

  • Basic knowledge of soldering techniques used in electronic wiring and connectors

  • Strong knowledge of 0-10V, 1-5V, 4-20ma measurement devices and control logic required.

  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, powered lift trucks and platform scissor-lifts preferred

  • Strong Math skills

  • Ability to read drawings and schematics

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical concepts

  • Good written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment

  • Strong computer skills with working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and data collection applications

  • Self-direction and the ability to work independently

NATURE & SCOPE


  • Participates in BAC's technology and product development processes through observation, study, and testing of heat transfer and thermal storage products

  • Reports to the R&D Lab Manager and interfaces with multiple functional disciplines including engineering, quality, manufacturing, supply chain management, and marketing

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Apprentice under experienced engineering staff to gain proficiency in the following:

    • Fabrication and assembly of electronic control systems for test fixtures from both written and verbal specifications

    • Instrumentation of evaporative heat transfer equipment for thermal, sound and vibration testing

    • Installation and monitoring of sensors and various measurement devices associated with product tests

    • Prototype assembly and modification involving electrical, mechanical, and heat transfer components using various materials and methods of construction

    • Assist in the development of test plans and specifications

    • Generation of accurate and detailed test reports in order to communicate test results to various internal customers

    • Supporting technology investigation and product development projects

    • Assisting with the preventive maintenance and upkeep of the R&D Laboratory facilities and equipment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk up to 80% of the time. Frequent use of hands to perform mechanical tasks including turning, torqueing, lifting, pushing, pulling is required. Working conditions include inside a lab area and occasionally outside exposed to weather. Ability to work on ladders and lifts is required. This position requires occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs to shoulder height. Weekend and shift work may be necessary depending upon workload.
