We are seeking a motivated safety intern looking to grow with the RJM team and enhance our team culture. As our safety intern, you will assist the safety director on various projects, which may include on-site work at multiple construction projects. Provide safety administrative support to help achieve the strategic goals of the department by data tracking, preparing minutes, and demonstrating personal responsibility to build a positive safety culture.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES With oversight:
Conduct regular jobsite walk through audits with Superintendent project team to identify hazards.
Contribute to the development and enhancement of the overall project safety program, policies and procedures. Collaborate with and assist other departments to reduce and eliminate risk.
Foster and build relationships to ensure safety compliance with employees, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Provide administrative support of Safety Director / department as assigned. Records maintenance, tracking, monitoring and evaluation of leading indicator data.
Provide safety support to project team members, including but not limited to, attending pre-construction planning meetings with project team to review overall site-specific safety programs.
Champion safety messaging, practices and building a culture of care and concern for each team member.
Escalate issues through the proper chain of command (i.e., job site issues, non-compliant sub-contractors, disciplinary issues, etc.).
Assist Safety Director in other Safety department functions as assigned.
Education:
Bachelors degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, or Construction Management (or in pursuit of a degree)
Work Experience:
No construction experience required, but beneficial
Demonstrated Technical Competencies to include:
Basic computer skills
Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, Projects
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Camtasia or other video editing software
Procore knowledge a plus, not required
Demonstrated Professional Competencies to include:
Strong organizational skills
Displays a desire to learn and take initiative
Displays strong written, oral communication skills and effective listening skills
Critical thinking and problem recognition to make sound decisions in a timely manner.
