POSITION SUMMARY:

The Grant Writer plays a pivotal role in fostering and expanding relationships with government, institutional, and foundations across the United States on behalf of NMDP to drive increased revenue year-over-year. This position is instrumental in securing vital funding for programs operated by the organization, with a focus on medical research. By collaborating closely with internal stakeholders, the Grant Writer crafts program content, compiles essential data for grant applications, reports, stewardship communications, and other public outreach efforts. This role serves as a writing expert and subject matter expert on various NMDP programs, including research, for the Foundation team. This position can be remote (US) or hybrid. #LI-Remote #LI-Hybrid.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Foundation Relations:


  • Initiates proactive outreach efforts to establish and nurture relationships with external grant-making foundations and government entities.
  • Engages in strategic communication with potential foundation funders to progress targets through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship phases.
  • Strategically aligns high-potential foundation prospects with programs and projects that align with established priority areas, including NMDP research.
  • Submits high-quality, timely grant applications and reports, implementing stewardship plans to foster sustained relationships leading to increased funding and engagement.
  • Collaborates with Corporate Partnerships and Major Gifts/Family Foundations to provide essential content and data for grant applications

Content Development and Management:


  • Develops specialized content and metrics tailored for grant applications.
  • Coordinates with NMDP program liaisons to gather and monitor program data, including overall outcomes and specialized metrics.
  • Serves as content matter expert for select NMDP programs and initiatives for larger Foundation team.
  • Conducts thorough research to develop and articulate content and metrics required for grant applications.
  • Provides editing expertise across the Corporate and Foundation Partnerships Team.

Grant Submission and Management:


  • Maintains a comprehensive calendar of grant submission and reporting deadlines to ensure timely submission of applications, progress reports, and follow-up correspondence.
  • Prepares status reports on solicitation and reporting activities.

Other Accountabilities:


  • Effectively communicates the NMDP's mission, programs, accomplishments, and goals to external stakeholders through various channels.
  • Facilitates collaboration and information exchange among NMDP Foundation and NMDP staff across departments.
  • Undertakes special projects as assigned and actively participates as a team member to achieve overall goals.
  • Ensures the confidentiality of Foundation and NMDP information.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • Familiarity working with government entities to raise grant dollars preferred/ideal.
  • Proficiency in Raiser's Edge or comparable development software.
  • Familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.

Ability to:

  • Effectively manage and grow a grants portfolio to drive increased revenue that supports Foundation team's ambitious fundraising goals.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in writing successful proposals and reports.
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects effectively, meeting deadlines consistently.
  • Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills, with proficiency in word processing software.
  • Function autonomously as a self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, healthcare, communications, or related field; or equivalent experience (4 years) may be substituted for the degree requirement.
  • Experience with government grants.
  • Experience writing research-focused grants.
  • Minimum of 3 years of development experience, including identifying, cultivating, and soliciting corporate/foundation prospects, along with at least three years of grant writing experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Availability for travel (2-3 day trips).
