About this opportunity:

The Manager, Rotating Equipment Maintenance Execution and Engineering manages all aspects of the rotating mechanical maintenance execution and engineering teams, including direction-setting, personnel development, oversight of work quality, establishment of standards, development and implementation of improvements, and measurement of results. In conjunction with the other Maintenance Managers, this role provides leadership of engineering and execution for the preventive and routine maintenance activities at the Toledo Refinery.



What you'll do:


  • Responsible for the health, safety, and environmental performance and awareness in areas of responsibility to achieve the refinery goals of zero incidents, i.e. no accidents, no harm to people and no harm to the environment. Participates in refinery safety programs, investigates accidents and near-misses, prepares and conducts safety meetings. Promotes a clean, safe work site and assures proper housekeeping

  • Sets and enforces expectation standards for his/her areas of responsibility

  • Administers and/or participates in support of the employee policy, i. e., everyone knows what is expected of them, everyone has open discussions about performance issues, everyone is helped/helps develop employee capabilities, and everyone will be listened to and involved in improving their team's performance

  • Assures supervision, training and development of Maintenance Craft employees, including Cenovus and/or contract Machinists

  • Proactively supports the Reliability strategy and work practices in support of the business goals. Supports the concepts that no failure is unavoidable, that fit-for-purpose analyses are conducted for all failures and that opportunities are taken to improve equipment and processes as part of the normal routine

  • Assures and optimizes Maintenance execution practices and procedures to achieve cost-effective results, including efficient scheduling of resources, proper training and performance of Craft personnel, and high-quality execution of work with a focus on Safety and Availability

  • Leads execution of planned and unplanned unit shutdowns executed by the Maintenance team, including support of timely worklist, job plan and critical path schedule development, and efficient completion of high-quality field execution, tracking and closeout activities

  • Assures appropriate Control of Work requirements, HSSE reviews, actions and considerations are addressed or completed in the execution of work

  • Responsible for implementation and utilization of disciplined Maintenance execution practices and standards

  • Assures annual budget is managed and maintained for areas of responsibility

  • Supports the use of high-quality Maintenance and Reliability Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) along with other input to drive performance and implementation of improvements as appropriate

  • Administers the union - company labor agreement fairly and consistently, with an understanding and consideration for the company's position on issues. Coordinates actions and responses with other members of management. Investigates grievances thoroughly and responds at first step. Participates in arbitration hearings as required

  • Support the planning preparations and execution of Turnarounds as outlined per the Turnaround Common Process (TCP) milestones and deliverables requirements

  • Leads the quarterly maintenance steering committee discussions and provides the twice a year data required in advance of two of the quarterly meetings

  • Serves as a member of the Maintenance Leadership Team driving; continuous improvement in the Maintenance, Reliability & Engineering Department processes and contributing to the development and implementation of site-wide initiatives

  • Accountable for delivering the Rotating Equipment strategy that supports the Refinery's effort in achieving the site goals in availability, and safe, reliable, and environmentally sound operations. This role is also responsible for the development and implementation of the Cenovus Toledo Refinery's Reliability Engineering Strategy for Rotating Equipment

  • Functions as the Technical Authority for Rotating Equipment in the Toledo Refinery

  • Acts as point of contact for all engineering requests pertaining to major critical rotating equipment

  • Defines the engineering scope and schedule of predictive/preventative maintenance work, within Engineering and Technical Practices, to deliver plant capability to operations for all existing rotating equipment

  • Interfaces with broader internal and external Rotating Equipment networks and communities of practice and promotes networking both within Cenovus and across the industry in the Rotating Equipment field

  • Develops and mentors Rotating Equipment Supervisors, Rotating Equipment Engineers, and PM Technician, technically and professionally

  • Provides supervision to Rotating Equipment Engineers to ensure proper technical training and development, the implementation and use of appropriate technical standards, codes and practices and the proactive technical input into the planning and execution of Maintenance and Project activities

  • Assures supervision and development of Maintenance Craft employees, including Cenovus and/or contract Machinists and Millwrights

  • Supports the effectiveness of the planning and scheduling processes

  • Assures the process for addressing schedule interruptions is utilized and collaborates with other Maintenance and Operations personnel to minimize impacts

  • Assures periodic review of execution quality and efficiency, and the implementation of Maintenance Work Practices

  • Enforces requirements for project and program development, funding, authorization, execution and closeout are completed in a manner appropriate for the type of work - championing consistent use of recommended equipment acquisition process

  • Enforces proper closure and analysis requirements as they pertain to Maintenance execution and the proactive leadership of actions to reduce future failures and drive improvements to rotating equipment and maintenance processes

  • Emphasizes and enforces consistent use of Management of Change by team members

  • Support the planning preparations and execution of Turnarounds as outlined per the Turnaround Common Process (TCP) milestones and deliverables requirements

  • Sets standards for maintenance and reliability engineering capabilities for rotating equipment and for how those capabilities are applied within the organization i.e. staffing, competence, tools, processes, and documentation requirements

  • Fosters effective utilization of root cause failure analysis and other applicable reliability-based systems, including training for practitioners and clear guidelines for use

  • Drives the measurement and use of information to identify, develop and complete a backlog of high-quality reliability-driven improvement ideas and projects

  • Networks and ensures appropriate reliability-driven technology and processes are applied in support of the business goals

  • Promotes the Maintenance work practices and Cenovus' Maintenance Operating Model in support of the business goals

  • Assures and optimizes Maintenance execution practices and procedures in rotating equipment area to achieve cost-effective results, including efficient scheduling of resources, proper training and performance of Craft personnel, and high-quality execution of work with a focus on Safety and Availability

  • Assists in planning turnaround activities in rotating equipment and related areas

  • Champions the development and maintenance of equipment records and repair histories, including baseline data

  • Develops, implements, and improves Preventive Maintenance/Predictive Maintenance (PM/PdM) programs for rotating equipment


Who you are:



Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 12 years relevant experience in relevant maintenance execution and engineering activities required

  • Background in maintenance and/or capital project execution, rotating equipment engineering, contractor relations, and exposure to plant/refinery operations preferred

  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience preferred
