Job Description:

The Accounting Lead will partner with Inventory leadership to facilitate the professional development and mentorship of the team's Senior Financial Analysts. In addition, the Inventory Costing Lead will prepare and analyze monthly inventory accounting, reporting, and other related activities for Commercial entities affiliated with the North America Business Unit's Phosphate and Potash segments. This includes analysis and journal entry preparation of all of Mosaic's North America Final Price Deferred (FPD) inventory activity, including freight, for both domestic and international customers. They will partner with the North America Customer Service team to ensure successful completion of a quarterly customer confirmation process and with the corporate Commercial team to record periodic mark-to-market adjustments for international provisionally priced activity. They will be responsible for analysis of freight expenditures and associated absorption for the North America Business Unit's Phosphate and Potash segments. They will also prepare calculations, journal entries, and analysis papers related to Profit-In-Inventory (PII) to ensure that Profit-In-Inventory eliminations are properly identified and recorded. They will be responsible for preparing calculations, analysis papers, and, where necessary, journal entries to acknowledge any lower of cost-or-market (LCM) considerations for the North America Business Unit. They will also be responsible for leading the coordination of various Commercial-focused Inventory SOX controls for the North America Business Unit and will act as the primary contact with both internal and external auditors on North America Commercial Inventory audit requests and analysis. Other specific analytical responsibilities will be as directed by leadership and other key business partners. They will also create, manage, and drive special projects for process improvements and changes in technical accounting requirements.



What will you do?



  • Assist in the professional development and mentorship of the team's Senior Financial Analysts and assist with the creation and management of special projects for process improvements and changes in technical accounting requirements.


  • Prepare calculations, journal entries, and analysis papers related to Profit-In-Inventory (PII) to ensure that Profit-In-Inventory eliminations are properly identified and recorded. Prepare calculations, analysis papers, and, where necessary, journal entries to acknowledge any lower of cost-or-market (LCM) considerations for the North America Business Unit.

  • Lead the coordination of various Commercial-focused Inventory SOX controls for the North America Business Unit and act as the primary contact with both internal and external auditors on North America Commercial Inventory audit requests and analysis.


  • Analysis and journal entry preparation for freight expenditures and associated absorption for the North America Business Unit's Phosphate and Potash segments.ternal ARO cost estimates. Lead coordination of ARO activities with internal and external auditors ensuring appropriate controls compliance in ARO accounting and reporting. Oversee and perform accounting and internal reporting for all other Mosaic North American environmental and legal reserves including coordination of quarterly internal meetings with legal and engineering teams.


  • Lead and review all other liability and cost accounting for Mosaic North America, ensuring compliance with US GAAP. Lead and review North American and Corporate fixed asset activities.


  • Lead the liability and related income statement accounting analysis for Mosaic's North American operations and Corporate legal entities.


  • Responsible for the review of income statement accounts for Mosaic's North American and Corporate legal entities, as well as analysis for quarterly/year-end balance sheet reviews. Complete auditors' PBC requests as required. Lead and maintain SOX standards at all times and communicate with internal / external auditors.


  • Develop and coach employees in order to retain and expand organizational talent through focused attention and effort. Provides timely and constructive feedback on a regular basis to ensure employees have a clear understanding of their work, roles and the business. Manages performance issues when necessary. Works with employees on their career development plans. Ensures proper level of US GAAP knowledge to perform duties and properly maintain books and records.





What do you need for this role?



  • Bachelor's degree required with major in Accounting, Finance or Business with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance (Masters preferred)


  • 5+ years of finance or accounting experience, preferably in a publicly traded company


  • Strong knowledge and experience with asset retirement obligation accounting and analysis, preferably in the fertilizer industry.


  • Experience in the fertilizer or other commodity industry is preferred


    Strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC and/or management reporting, internal controls and SOX compliance


  • CPA preferred


  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills
