Description: Position Description

The Seidman Lab at Harvard Medical School is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Assistant III (RA III) to join our dynamic research team. Our lab focuses on the evaluation of normal and diseased heart tissue in both human and mouse models. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge cardiovascular research through independent project management, advanced laboratory techniques, and collaborative efforts with the lab director and other team members. The RA III will independently perform and coordinate a variety of complex laboratory research procedures and support tasks to advance our research objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate and Manage Research Projects: Independently coordinate multiple aspects of research projects, including designing and executing experiments, setting up protocols, and developing new laboratory techniques to advance the lab's research objectives.

Perform Advanced Laboratory Techniques: Conduct advanced experiments such as Bulk RNA Sequencing (RNA extraction, library preparation, sequencing) and Miseq Evaluation of DNA fragments, ensuring

high-quality data generation and analysis.

Utilize Merscope Technology: Independently employ Merscope for spatially resolved transcriptomics to study gene expression patterns in heart tissue and troubleshoot technical issues as needed.

Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze, interpret, and summarize complex sequencing data using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet, or statistical software applications or program platforms. Contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts and reports by presenting findings and drawing meaningful conclusions.

Train and Oversee Lab Personnel: Train and oversee the work of junior lab members and colleagues in various laboratory techniques and procedures, ensuring adherence to protocols and quality standards.

Laboratory Maintenance and Management: Oversee the maintenance of lab equipment, ordering of supplies, and management of vendor relationships. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and undertake special projects related to laboratory operations and improvements as required.

Collaborative Research and Innovation: Collaborate with the lab director and other researchers to design innovative experiments, optimize protocols, and implement new technologies. Make informed decisions regarding future experiments based on preliminary results.

Contribute to Team Goals: Actively contribute to the overall goals of the research unit by participating in team meetings, sharing insights, and undertaking other duties as required to support the lab's mission.

Basic Qualifications

  • College background preferably in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.
  • Two or more years of related work experience, with relevant coursework potentially counting towards experience.


Additional Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor's Degree preferred.

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.
