Position Summary

Audubon Mid-Atlantic is seeking a Delaware River Watershed Program Coordinator to help build community relationships and implement Audubon’s on-the-ground habitat restoration and conservation work in Philadelphia and throughout the Delaware River Watershed.


The goal of the Delaware River Watershed Program (the Program) is to maintain and improve water quality in and along the Delaware River and its tributaries so that the watershed remains a supportive migratory corridor and nesting grounds for millions of birds. This is a multi-state effort that incorporates policy, conservation and public engagement work in order to increase support and funding for conservation and environmental protection efforts within the Delaware River watershed. The Program also involves on-the-ground projects designed to restore and protect those critical watershed habitats and build community connections between people, birds and the spaces they share.


This is a full-time, hybrid position, involving some remote work from home and reporting frequently to Audubon’s environmental Centers in Philadelphia and Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. This work will require some weekend and evening hours, with time being balanced throughout the week for a full 35-hour workweek.


Compensation:


$18.00-$23.00 / hour


Essential Functions
  • The Delaware River Watershed Program Coordinator will work closely with the Manager, Delaware River Watershed Program Manager in the following areas:

    • Help plan and coordinate logistics for program activities such as community meetings and planting activities, including ordering supplies and equipment, managing materials delivery, preparing the site for work to be done, creating outreach and education materials and providing support at events.

  • Train, mentor, and manage volunteers engaged in monitoring and stewardship activities.

  • Work with the Manager, Delaware River Watershed Program Manager to build relationships and collaborate with local community leaders, nonprofit organizations and other partners to develop and implement project work plans, particularly in Environmental Justice communities within project focus areas.

  • Coordinate with Audubon communications staff to update the public about program activities and volunteer opportunities through email, blogs, social media and fliers.

  • Attend and represent Audubon at meetings and events of partner organizations, municipal agencies and local community groups, including preparing and delivering presentations on behalf of the program.

  • Coordinate with staff at Audubon’s two environmental education centers, the Discovery Center in Philadelphia and the John James Audubon Center in Montgomery County to ensure that programming and educational messaging is aligned.

  • Monitor and track essential metrics for active grants such as program attendees and numbers of trees and plants planted, mapping project activities. Assist in drafting grant applications and submitting grant reports as needed.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.


  • Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in an environmental field required and 0-2 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

  • Knowledge of water quality and wildlife conservation issues in the Delaware River Watershed.

  • Demonstrated experience with supporting complex projects.

  • Strong verbal communication and problem-solving skills; excellent judgment and decision-making skills, possessing a high degree of integrity in all deliverables.

  • Sound interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide range of individuals and organizations.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Experience supporting inclusive projects that include opportunities for traditionally underserved communities to engage in their creation and implementation.

  • Interest in and knowledge of the habitat needs of birds preferred.

  • Demonstrated commitment to conservation and passion for the mission and programs of the National Audubon Society, including our principles of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation between project sites required.
