What's the role?

As an Application Engineer based out of our Charlotte, NC location the role involves providing specialized technical advice to the sales team in order to develop, sell, and successfully implement product or service solutions that meet customer needs. This includes offering technical guidance during large, complex, or difficult negotiations, particularly with customers of strategic importance to the organization. In this role, it is crucial to possess strong technical expertise, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. The successful candidate will play a vital role in delivering exceptional customer experiences and driving business growth through technical sales support and customer satisfaction.

Here's what you'll do:

• Pre-sales Activities:

Analyze customer's technical requirements and develop proposals outlining how our products and services can meet those needs.

Ensure integration and implementation of our products and services with the customer's existing systems and equipment.

• Sales Presentations and Technical Support:

Develop and deliver sales presentations to potential customers.

Respond to highly complex technical inquiries regarding our products, systems, or services.

• Estimation and Planning:

Estimate costs, resources, time, and technical requirements for modifying, configuring, and installing our products and services to meet customer needs.

Collaborate with hardware, software, and systems design engineers to ensure customization and installation align with customer requirements.

• Post-sales Activities:

Resolve implementation issues and provide user training.

Develop and deliver training programs to educate customers on the features of their purchased product or service.

• Troubleshooting and Technical Support:

Respond to highly complex customer questions and troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve technical problems that arise during or after implementation.

• Internal Training and Mentorship:

Lead trainings for internal sales and service professionals.

Coach and mentor less experienced engineers, ensuring the quality of their work and assisting them in problem resolution.

Do you qualify?

• A four-year degree in Engineering, Math or Physics. Alternatively, 2 years of experience in the Metrology industry.


• Calypso Software experience is a plus (strongly recommended).


• Ability to read engineering drawings for dimensional control requirements.


• Ability to operate all types of ZEISS measuring machines including programming using ZEISS application software; setup and staging of parts; accuracy and repeatability verification; etc.


• Strong computer skills and affinity for computer aided data analysis products.


• Must have strong problem-solving skills with the ability to learn independently to find solutions to potential customer's problems.


• Good verbal and written communication skills with an ability to create concise technical reports.


• Ability to reason and negotiate complex problems with customers.
