Job Description

Job Title: Purchasing Manager Date: September 2024

Reports To: Supply Chain Manager

American Fan is looking for a seasoned, process-oriented leader that would take on the role of our Purchasing Manager. The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the procurement activities within American Fan that serves the Navy and Industrial sectors. This role involves sourcing and purchasing materials, equipment, and services to ensure smooth and efficient production processes while optimizing costs and maintaining high-quality standards. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills and be able to develop binding relationships across all functional areas within the organization, as well with customers and vendors.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with company objectives.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers and vendors.
  • Analyze market trends to identify potential opportunities and risks.
  • Evaluate and select suppliers based on quality, cost, and delivery performance.
  • Work with internal teams to negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers to achieve the best value.
  • Monitor supplier performance and address any issues related to quality, delivery, or compliance
  • Collaborate with production and warehouse teams to coordinate material needs.
  • Manage the end-to-end purchasing process, including order placement, tracking, and receipt.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and contract terms.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation related to procurement activities.
  • Conduct regular audits of purchasing processes to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
  • Supervise and mentor purchasing staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Purchasing Manager or similar role in a manufacturing environment, preferably Defense focused.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience in supplier relationship management.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a relevant field, with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry regulations and compliance.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to inspire and guide a team.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
