What's the role?

To strengthen the Zeiss Team located at our brand new 'state of the art' manufacturing facility in Dublin, California, we are seeking an experienced and highly skilled X-Ray Source Reliability Expert.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability of our X-Ray Microscope's Source. Your primary objective will be to improve the overall reliability of the product, minimize errors in manufacturing and assembly processes, reduce production time, and enhance the lifespan of the X-ray source when used in the field. Candidates with a background in high energy physics applications or RF engineering would be a great fit for this role.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Conduct thorough analysis and assessment of the current X-ray source reliability to identify potential areas for improvement.

  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the reliability of the X-ray source, focusing on reducing failures, optimizing performance, and extending its operational lifetime.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to identify and rectify any issues related to the X-ray source's reliability.

  • Design and execute experiments and tests to evaluate the reliability of the X-ray source under various conditions.

  • Analyze data and identify trends or patterns that can help in identifying potential failure modes and implementing preventive measures.

  • Establish and maintain clear documentation and records related to X-ray source reliability, including failure analysis reports, test results, and improvement plans.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to the manufacturing and assembly teams to ensure proper handling, installation, and maintenance of the X-ray source.

  • Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and best practices related to X-ray source technology and reliability engineering.

  • Act as a subject matter expert on X-ray source reliability, providing training and knowledge sharing sessions to internal stakeholders as necessary

Do you qualify?

Experience and Education Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field. A master's degree or higher, or 10+ years in industry is preferred.

  • Proven experience and expertise in either high energy physics applications, RF engineering, X-ray source technology, Accelerators, Light Sources or related technologies focused on reliability engineering, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Strong knowledge of source technology, including components, operation, failure modes, and mitigation techniques.

  • Proficient in conducting root cause analysis, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), statistical analysis, and reliability prediction methodologies.

  • Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) and relevant standards such as ISO 9001.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think analytically.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Detail-oriented, with a focus on accuracy and precision in documentation and reporting.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently, while adhering to deadlines.

  • Continuous learning mindset and a passion for staying updated with emerging technologies and industry trends

The annual pay range for this position is $156,000 - $195,000

The pay offered for this role may be influenced by factors such as job location, scope of role, qualifications, education, experience, & complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent.

This position is also eligible for a performance bonus or sales commissions. ZEISS also offers robust benefits, including medical plans, retirement savings plan and paid time off.
