General Field Service Mechanic III Summary:

The Field Service Technician III will provide hands-on technical and operational support of  Reciprocating Compression equipment and supporting utility systems within customer facilities during commissioning, start-up, operations, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance testing, and trouble-shooting situations as required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Supervisor or Manager, will provide technical and mechanical services to external customers in settings such as workshops, compressor stations, process plants, etc.  The incumbent is also responsible for the following:


  • Planning and execution of site installation activities for Reciprocating Compression equipment.

  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) in the investigation and resolution of customer reported technical problems with equipment.

  • Make recommendations to the customer to remediate operational or service difficulties.  Provide recommended preventative maintenance procedures as requested by the customer.

  • Through accepted standard troubleshooting processes, diagnose and correct engine problems and / or compressor problems.

  • Perform testing of equipment in the field.

  • Supervise minor repairs, major repairs or corrective maintenance on customer equipment including reciprocating engines and compressors.

  • Conduct daily safety training and supervise the completion of daily safety checks and report safety concerns.

  • Monitor key and critical operating variables and other process data to ensure that the engine and compressor units are operating within design parameters.

  • On-site, attend operations meetings with client personnel to proactively identify issues and lead the efforts to resolve them.

  • Lead construction activities to ensure process designs are used for operational and safety, identifying improvements in unit operations based on actual field experience.

  • Learn, share, and implement best practices with extended Reciprocating Compression Engineering, Sales, and Operations team members

  • Establish and cultivate working relationships with key customer contacts including operators, engineering and maintenance personnel.  Proactively manager long term and short term issues.

  • Lead safety and environmental reviews.  Incumbent will be a key to successful process hazard reviews.

  • Lead trouble-shooting / problem solving assistance efforts with customers, correcting or repairing the customers’ equipment.

  • Lead turn-around activities for customers including identification / justification of maintenance processes, procedure writing, reviews, equipment inspection, etc.

  • Travel 200-300 days per year anywhere from 2-14 weeks at a time.

  • Work extended hours up to 10-14 hours per day including weekends/holidays, 6 – 7 days per week. A typical work week can be 60-84 hours.

  • Ascend/descend ladders to examine equipment, position yourself to examine equipment including in confined spaces, move boxes weighing from 40 -50 pounds, work in outdoor weather conditions, walk long distances and share company vehicles with other employees at customer sites.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED Certificate preferred Or Minimum of 2 years of experience in Reciprocating Compression 

  • Meets all sublevel (FS Technician I & II) requirements

  • Complete training for the following:

    • Formal training in a technical certificate program

    • Technical training in the oil and gas industry or associated industry

    • Completion of all Reciprocating Compression Systems product training

    • Master the Core competencies


    • Advanced Special tooling

    • Advanced Engine & Compressor Theory

    • Advanced Product Knowledge

      • Cooper Bessemer, Ajax, Superior Engine, Superior Compressor,  Gemini Compressor, Clark, Waukesha, Dresser, Caterpillar

    • Mastery of Shop Math Skills

    • Mastery of Computer skills – Word & Excel

    • Mastery of product documentation e.g., blueprints, drawings, schematics, BOM…etc.


    • Advanced leadership skills

    • Mastery of Engine Balancing

    • Mastery Web Deflection/Alignment
