Summary:



The Underwriting Assistant will report to the Manager, Operations. The Underwriting Assistant is primarily responsible for supporting the lead underwriters. They collect external consumer and agent information, perform data entry, modify policies, prepare renewals for review and provide support internally and externally as it relates to underwriting administrative functions. To succeed in this role, the individual should have a propensity toward attention to detail, be an analytical thinker and possess effective organizational and communication skills.



Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Review and analyze policy applications, including job descriptions, hazards and exposures

  • Verify accuracy and completeness of applications, ensuring all required information is included

  • Conduct initial reviews of policy submissions to identify potential issues or concerns

  • Determine whether policies meet underwriting guidelines and requirements

  • Identify and flag potential red flags or high-risk factors

  • Provide administrative support to underwriters, including preparing documents, data entry, and other tasks

  • Assist underwriters in reviewing policy applications, conducting risk assessments, and making informed decisions

  • Coordinate with underwriters to ensure timely processing of policies and approvals

  • Serve as the liaison for underwriters and agents in order to track, manage, and prioritize insurance applications and other services

  • Help resolve underwriting-related issues and disputes

  • Respond to client inquiries and requests in a timely and professional manner

  • Provide clear explanations of underwriting decisions, policy terms and conditions

  • Maintain positive relationships with clients through effective communication and service

  • Identify areas for improvement and implement process changes as needed

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures

  • Perform ad hoc tasks and duties as assigned by the underwriting team or management

  • Support statutory reporting requirements through review and correction of PCRB criticisms




Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma with insurance and/or administrative experience. Associates degree or higher preferred

  • 1+ years of experience in Property & Casualty insurance industry (Workers Compensation, G/L preferred)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn other Company specific software applications.


    Must have the ability to use mobile devices, computer, fax, scanner, phone, and copy machine.


  • Proficiency in basic mathematics

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, proactive and capable of multi-tasking

  • Excellent oral and written communication

  • Understands the importance of deadlines and discretion when dealing with issues of a sensitive nature

  • Possesses sound judgment
