Job Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:


Under limited supervision, the Pacemaker/ICD Technician performs a variety of patient care and technical duties in the in-patient setting and in our outpatient Cardiac Device Clinics. These responsibilities include pacemaker, ICD, Implantable Loop Recorder interrogation & programming both in-person and by remote means. Responsibilities may also include follow-up of patients participating in research studies and clinical trials in Cardiac device therapy utilizing new therapies and devices.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Enrolls, interrogates and programs patients with CIED in the in-patient and out-patient settings.
• Recognizes abnormalities, malfunctions and alert indicators (for example "End of Service", lead malfunction alerts); notifies Advanced Practice Clinician and/or cardiologist and assists in scheduling patients for follow up or replacement as indicated
• Coordinates and prioritizes with other members of the healthcare team to respond to patient's, plan, and initiate timely and efficient care
• Educates patients and families regarding device function and remote and / or clinic follow up scheduling.
• Forwards information to referring physicians and providers.
• Ensures timely and proper documentation and billing
• Is flexible to change designation of responsibilities as circumstances dictate under the direction of the clinical leadership team; participates in the device recall team if necessary
• Responsible for device in-person and remote monitoring, billing issues, and reporting issues.
• Supports all aspects of documentation in the electronic CIED reporting system and the Electronic Medical Record.
• Provides cross-coverage as necessary
• Serves as a resource to staff, other departments, and administration; provides input and recommendations to develop and maintain budgetary goals.
• Maintains knowledge of hospital, department, and regulatory agency policies and requirements
• Is available to perform duties in satellite and affiliate device clinics as directed by the clinical leadership team.
• Participates in continuing education
• Attends departmental meetings as scheduled.
• Supports administrative operations by acting as a clinical liaison to administrative support staff.
• Responds to clinical related communications, as directed via email, phone etc.
• Emphasis is placed upon direct outpatient care in coordination with attending cardiologists, mid-level practitioners, and administrative assistants.
• Performs other duties, as directed.



Qualifications

• 1-year experience in a device clinic desirable.
• Knowledge of advanced ECG Interpretation
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required
• Familiarity with EPIC (EMR) desirable
• IBHRE certification desirable


SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
• Understanding of managed care and healthcare billing; database applications and collection of data
• Experience in presenting patient education to individuals and groups
• Ability to work independently and perform duties in an accurate and timely manner
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required


WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office and patient care environments, which may require the lifting objects and patients. Work requires contact with monitoring devices and other medical equipment. Prolonged standing can be expected. Walking to and from the patient care area and exam rooms is routine.
