The Office of Admissions is the front-facing department to the public for undergraduate recruitment for the Indiana University Bloomington campus. The Office of Admissions is responsible for recruiting the freshman class each year, counseling prospective students and their families about the admissions process, providing accurate information to the public about our recruiting requirements and standards, and marketing Indiana University Bloomington.



Job Summary



Department Specific Responsibilities


  • Serves the mission and directives of Indiana University by consulting with campus academic units and independently exercising decision-making authority to achieve student recruitment, outreach, admissions, and enrollment objectives for the Bloomington campus.

  • Assists with the planning, management and implementation of on-campus programming including campus visits and special events. The Assistant Director manages the Special Group visit program; working with Community Based Organizations, high schools, and campus partners to bring groups of prospective students to campus.

  • Serves as a member of the Student Ambassador Leadership Team assisting with the management, training, and evaluation of 70+ Student Ambassadors.

  • Provides training and orientation for staff and volunteers involved in recruitment activities.

  • Coordinates, implements, and participates in the recruitment efforts and admissions-related initiatives that serve to advance the undergraduate enrollment goals for the Bloomington campus.

  • Represents the university at on and off campus recruitment events such as college nights and high school visits, manages recruitment resources, reviews applications, interprets admissions criteria, and makes admissions decisions.

  • Analyzes data and ensures that goals are met. Takes action consistent with this analysis and provides leadership for academic and student service units on admission strategies.

General Responsibilities


  • Maintains, implements and oversees a holistic recruitment yield tactical plan for recruitment.

  • Develops, implements, and administers plans, programs, and events for general and targeted student recruitment in support of organizational goals.

  • Integrates a diverse and strategic communications strategy in collaboration with other departments, geared toward specific student declared academic major, career interests, and geographic factors.

  • Identifies and develops partnerships for outreach to prospective students and influencers.

  • Interprets academic policies and exercises authority and independent judgment.

  • Plans, implements, and evaluates programs and processes and determines the effectiveness of markets and strategies. Exercises independent judgment and uses census data and modeling tools to identify effective marketing plans and strategies to address specific populations.

  • Serves in a collaborative role with internal and external stakeholders to identify targets of opportunity to attract and enroll under-represented populations. Participates in the assessment and evaluation of various models.

  • May attend meetings or serve on committees with the admissions stakeholders, including all staff meetings, recruitment, and outreach team meetings, customer service lead meetings, and undergraduate recruitment council meetings; may provide guidance to other admissions counselors.

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.



Additional Information



Requires considerable travel as well as night and weekend responsibilities.



Work Location



This position is hybrid based in Bloomington, Indiana with 3 days in person and 2 days remote. Hybrid availability is subject to change based on University Policy and business needs.
