The Vice President for International Affairs and the teams of staff in OVPIA's offices are the stewards of international activity across all campuses of Indiana University. The mission of IU Education Abroad is to promote education abroad by Indiana University students through participation in quality programs in a wide range of disciplines. The purpose is to enhance international awareness and understanding and enrich curricula on every campus of the university, as well as to expand educational opportunities abroad for students from diverse backgrounds. As the most effective and dramatic experience by which students can achieve international and intercultural learning, education abroad will contribute significantly to careers in all fields of specialization and should be an integral part of an education at Indiana University.

IU Education Abroad facilitates the education abroad experiences of approximately 4,000 students annually from all Indiana University campuses, with about 75% of those students receiving some form of financial aid. We strive to broaden and increase participation in education abroad, international internship and service-learning programs.

Job Summary



Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Serves as front-line contact for all visitors, callers, and electronic communications to IU Education Abroad.
  • Replies to routine email and phone inquiries.
  • Purchases and maintains office supplies and equipment; submits requests for repairs and IT services.
  • Supports and monitors the work of student employees.
General Responsibilities
  • Provides administrative support to a department or group of professionals, exercising confidentiality, tact and diplomacy.
  • Utilizes business software applications to prepare correspondence, reports, presentations, agendas, minutes, etc.; compiles data for expense and statistical reports.
  • Receives, screens, and directs incoming calls, visitors, mail, and email promptly, courteously, and accurately.
  • Schedules and confirms appointments, meetings, and travel arrangements; tracks expenses.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of administrative standards, policies and practices for the organization.
  • May perform other duties related to maintaining an internal website and/or working with social media.

EDUCATION



Required



  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • 2 years of relevant experience.

SKILLS

  • Demonstrates ability to maintain confidential information.

  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills.

  • Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision making skills.

  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities.

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary



$16.80 per hour ($34,944 per year)
