Operations Manager




Huntsville, AL




Contract Position

Responsibilities:



  • Manage the production plant's output, personnel, and OTD (on time delivery) by leading and directing other managers and supervisors of multiple departments, materials, and equipment to a sustainable, scalable, and profitable operation.

  • Drafting processes, procedures, personnel and utilizing continuous improvement to successfully equip a medium sized electro-mechanical assembly operation.

  • Personnel ~ 25%

    • Encourage and enforce good safety practices across all areas.

    • Establish an atmosphere of continuous improvement and fostering of new ideas.

    • Lead by example with a hands-on attitude when necessary.

    • Team builder with mentoring and teaching skills.

      • Deep involvement with employee selection, retention, and discipline in all departments.

      • Build operational structure including new positions and promote within where possible to fill needed gaps.

      • Invest in all employees, grow team member's skills and management potential through direct interaction, training and experience.





  • Production ~45%

    • Ability to adjust to changing requirements, material shortages, quality issues, personnel shortages, etc.

    • Hands on management /Ownership of the plant's daily production output with the ability to lead changes and to address constraints and volume issues.

    • Identify production/quality issues and corrects prior to resuming production

    • Works to balance the line, utilizing personnel to their fullest potential

    • Be fluent in MRP programs - make sure All data is transparent in Core

    • Adjust workforce requirements (labor) based on plant loading and Company procedures.

    • Able to increase efficiency by utilizing automation and Lean principles where possible.

    • Interview and approve new Leads, Supervisors and Managers working within the Operations Department.

    • Coordinate workflow between departments to ensure no bottlenecks arise and resolve any issues immediately to prevent production from slowing or stopping.

    • Understand product models and lead technical problem-solving issues as needed.

    • Able to assist Quality Manager with determining RCA (root cause analysis) of problems and finding / implementing solutions



  • Plant ~30%

    • Assist Site Manager to effect facility management / modifications etc.

    • Lead and/or facilitate, as needed, production layout changes to meet the site goals.

    • Build and coordinate the operations interfaces with other departments (Warehouse, planning, finance etc.)

    • Ownership and oversight of production material integrity.

    • Understand current and future site size and production volume considerations.

    • Build environmentally friendly policies and processes including re-purposing, recycling and waste removal.




  • KPI(s):

    • Safety

    • Quality of processes and products

      • First Pass Yield

      • Quality yield/customer production related rejects



    • On Time Delivery of products (executing the Production Plan)

    • Ensure the assembly lines are operating smoothly and meeting daily/weekly/monthly production goals

    • Inventory reliability - Ensure Supervisors/Managers maintain an Accurate/Clean floor count (restock unused items, maintain minimal products on the floor, etc)




Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in field of Production Management, Operations Management, or similar fields or 10+ years of relevant experience overseeing electrical/mechanical manufacturing

  • Desired Skills:

    • Possess manufacturing background especially in electromechanics and SMT assembly

    • Willing to work flexible hours to ensure On Time Delivery

    • Understand and implement Lean Manufacturing and Continual Improvement concepts

    • Ability to resolve conflicts while maintaining team integrity
