Job Role Summary
Teach nutrition education for WIC participants throughout Marion County while supporting a Participant Centered Environment. Mentor clinic staff to provide participant centered services through individual counseling, group education and discussion. Responsible for creating new curriculum and activities to foster a welcoming and Participant Centered atmosphere. Responsible for the implementation of the Farmer's Market Nutrition Program
Job Duties
Develop curriculum for nutrition education classes and facilitated discussion groups for Marion County WIC participants.
Plan, implement, evaluate, and as schedule allows, teach facilitated nutrition education classes.
Coordinate and evaluate the Marion County WIC Farmer's Market Program.
Develop innovative ways and events to educate WIC participants.
Create and support PCS environment within each clinic by continuously training and motivating clinic staff and management team.
Develop and distribute Marion County WIC newsletters to improve communication with WIC staff.
Coordinate and conduct staff in-services/trainings on participant-centered services.
Informs, educates, and empowers participants and community partners through nutrition education.
Ensures compliance with regulations, policies, and budgeting as outlined by the US Department of Agriculture, Indiana Department of Health and Public Health Division.
Upholds a communication system to establish and maintain positive rapport between WIC and the community being served.
Participate in department, agency, state and advisory committees.
Maintains confidentiality of all client records and information as specified by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
Train at the appropriate National Incident management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) level
Participate in the response to public health emergencies, as directed.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Licenses/Certifications Required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of a Baccalaureate Degree in health education, public health, Nutrition, Dietetics or community health (If Nutrition or Dietetics degree, must be RD or RD eligible)
Master's Degree preferred
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES/MCHES) required within 6 months of hire
1-3 years previous experience with demonstrated ability in educating the public and/or colleagues on health and nutrition issues
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES/MCHES) required within 6 months of hire
(If Nutrition or Dietetics degree, must be RD or RD eligible)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Licenses/Certification required: valid driver's license and access to car
Excellent verbal and written skills
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Chrome
Must possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Must be able to take initiative and prioritize workload
Must have knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the WIC Program and the Division of Public Health
Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgments and tact in communicating with a wide variety of individuals
Knowledge of program planning and evaluation
Knowledge of appropriate nutrition and health related topics throughout the lifespan
Good judgment and discretion in communication (written, verbal and non-verbal).
Friendly with excellent customer service skills
Able to educate in front of groups
Advanced public speaking skills
Must be able to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.
Flexibility to adjust to changing program/department needs and activities
Must be able to lift minimum 45 pounds
Must resolve conflicting policies and procedures between federal, state and local agencies
Compliance with program guidelines to ensure continual funding.
High level of concentration, accuracy, attention to detail and ability to analyze and interpret data.
Working Environment
Travel required between various program locations.
Regular contact with WIC participants, WIC staff and community health professionals.
Exposure to communicable illness and disease due to direct and frequent client contact; participants in stress.
Some physical effort associated with lifting and carrying supplies.
