We have an exciting opportunity open for a Line Locator Specialist 1 in Forrest City, AR.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for identifying, mapping out, locating, and marking underground facilities using sophisticated mapping programs, electronic detection equipment, and utility maps in communication with contractors. In addition, they will coordinate and provide assistance in assessing locations for a need to repair, modify, and expand complying with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Locates and marks underground distribution system for contractors and others performing excavation work using appropriate locating equipment.
  • Serves as lead resource for internal Line Locator team and locating efforts in area.
  • Provides support and training to internal and external resources during proactive interactions, investigations, locating untoneable facilities and other processes.
  • Mentors and trains Line Locators in advanced line locating practices.
  • Serves as liaison with excavators, municipalities, and other utilities on projects.
  • Assists and evaluates excavators on job sites to ensure compliance with state laws.
  • Evaluates projects and excavators to determine appropriate resource involvement.
  • Works with Operations to assign dedicated resources to projects or excavators as needed to ensure system safety.
  • Provides technical expertise related to developing and implementing all aspects of Summit Utilities’ Damage Prevention Program.
  • Represents Summit Utilities in damage prevention groups.
  • Proactively reviews facilities for areas of untonability for targeted resolution.
  • Works with other resources utilizing excavation and hydro-vac equipment to expose and get exact physical locations of untonable facilities.
  • Drives vehicle to excavation sites and is responsible for related safety equipment and supplies utilized in work activity.
  • Works with outside and internal contractors and internal personnel to reduce facility damage.
  • Develop relationships and educate 3rd party contractors on safe digging practices.
  • Informs supervisor of construction projects in district of damage and/or potential danger to the distribution system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in field operations.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to work safely outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions.
  • Able to obtain Turn-On certification and restore service if interruption is required.

Preferred:

  • 2 years of utility locating experience
  • Gas distribution system experience
  • Safe and accurate operation of tools and equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, field sketches and maps
  • Knowledge of construction practices
  • Able to use personal computer software proficiently, such as Word, Excel and/or electronic mail

  • Able to demonstrate an aptitude for basic mechanical tasks.
  • Respond well to changing priorities.
