NTS Assistant Professor for BSPH Program with Teaching Focus at University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Job Description:

The University of Pittsburgh's School of Public Health (SPH) seeks an Assistant Professor in the non-tenure stream to teach within the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) undergraduate public health degree and to support the development of new educational programming at the School. This full-time, 12-month faculty position will be appointed in the appropriate home department and will be part of the SPH BSPH Office.

This faculty position will be expected to teach a minimum of four 3-credit undergraduate public health courses annually. The BSPH is a four-year undergraduate degree program that provides students with a foundation in the key disciplines of public health alongside active learning activities. Students learn about today’s most pressing public health topics, including climate change, health equity, infectious diseases, the role of technology in health promotion, and data science and public policy to improve health systems. Through our unique service-learning component, BSPH students engage directly with communities to apply lessons learned from the classroom and observe how their coursework translates into real-world settings.

In addition to teaching within the BSPH program, the position will work closely with the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Academic Affairs to expand undergraduate educational programming within the school. Candidates are encouraged to engage in their home Department’s many research programs depending on the precise balance of teaching, research and service appropriate to the candidate’s interest and career stage and the curricular needs of the BSPH Office.

Candidates must hold a doctoral-level degree and have experience in public health, online education, and grant writing. The ideal candidate will possess the following:

• Teaching expertise aligned with the fundamentals of public health and global public health.
• Substantial interest and demonstrated skills in pedagogy and educational program development. We are particularly interested in applicants with experience developing and instructing online courses.
• Commitment to collaboration with existing SPH faculty to develop the undergraduate educational program and to serve the educational mission of the school and to the school's mission of informed, empowered, and healthy communities and values of transparency, diversity, collaboration, integrity, empowerment, curiosity, and action.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
