Position Summary:

Conserva Aves is an innovative, bold, and visionary initiative that aims to preserve over two million hectares of essential habitat for globally threatened and declining migratory birds by catalyzing local leadership in the creation and sustainable management of new subnational protected areas (regional, municipal, Indigenous, and private territories) in initially nine countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Conserva Aves is led by American Bird Conservancy, National Audubon Society, Birds Canada, BirdLife International, and the Latin American and Caribbean Environmental Funds Network (RedLAC).


The Impact Monitoring and Reporting Specialist will lead the development and management of the Conserva Aves Key Performance Indicator (KPI) dashboard and database in collaboration with Conserva Aves consortium members. This critical role for the Conserva Aves initiative will support reporting for donors, local stakeholders, governments, and other key audiences involved with the program across the Western Hemisphere. The Impact Monitoring and Reporting Specialist will be a strong data manager, monitoring and evaluation specialist, and visual communicator who can develop tools and mechanisms for visually capturing and disseminating the impact of conservation actions undertaken, including collaborating with internal and external colleagues to produce compelling infographics and other graphical content that can be adapted for donor materials, communications materials, scientific journals, and other types of publications. The Impact Monitoring and Reporting Specialist should be a strong project manager, team player, and digitally savvy.

Essential Functions
  • Lead the development and management of the Conserva Aves Key Performance Indicator (KPI) database and dashboard. Coordinate as needed with vendor that has designed the Conserva Aves dashboard.

  • Coordinate data upload to the KPI database by RedLAC members, BirdLife partners, American Bird Conservancy's country leads, Conserva Aves consortium members, and other actors contributing to the Conserva Aves Initiative including composite projects.

  • Coordinate with and support national and regional partners in the collection, consolidation, and analysis of data at local, national, and regional levels to address established impact indicators in the Performance Measurement Framework of a project funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC), as well as monitoring for unanticipated impacts or consequences, in line with donor expectations for Results-based Management (RBM) approaches.

  • Support the development of tools and mechanisms for visually capturing and disseminating impact of conservation actions undertaken, including collaborating with internal and external colleagues to produce compelling infographics that can be adapted for donor materials, communications materials, scientific publications, and more.

  • Serve as liaison with Conserva Aves teams, including those managing funding from GAC, supporting and contributing to project reporting and in developing impact-driven storytelling.

  • Collaborate closely with GAC-funded project management teams to develop and operationalize the GAC-funded Conserva Aves project gender-sensitive Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL) frameworks, systems, tools and evaluation mechanisms.

  • Serve as key collaborator in ensuring findings and learnings are identified and integrated into adaptive management practices.

  • Actively contribute to the generation of reports for donors in collaboration with project partners and inform all partners about the status of impact indicators and keep project-related indicators updated in the Conserva Aves dashboard.

  • Support conservation science and communications teams of regional and international partners to help showcase the initiative’s impact.

  • Partner with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work.

  • Qualifications and Experience:
  • Three to five years of experience and a degree in a natural resource management-related science, information systems, or other relevant degree related to monitoring and evaluation of projects. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

  • Highly organized individual accustomed to collaborating with multiple stakeholders from diverse professional, cultural, and geographic backgrounds.

  • Significant experience and knowledge using results-based management approaches and tools for conservation or international cooperation programs and ensuring adherence to donor requirements.

  • Experience working on programs that integrate gender equality, social inclusion, and feminist approaches.

  • Experience using or designing quantitative and qualitative tools for measuring impact as well as ensuring accountability and learning-focused monitoring and evaluation.

  • Broad knowledge of geographic information systems, especially ArcGIS Online tools and applications.

  • Strong skills and experience in operationalizing monitoring and evaluation plans, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data sets and supporting partners in collecting and analyzing data collected for the purpose of identifying progress towards results.

  • Digitally savvy with experience creating or contributing to visual/graphic communications to represent data (charts, graphs, etc.).

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills that can be adapted to reach a wide range of individuals and used to build consensus. Ability to synthesize and communicate technical and complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong skills in building trust-based partner relationships.

  • Demonstrated ability to be a collaborative and proactive project leader and team player.

  • Fluent in English and Spanish with the ability to speak, read, and write in both.

  • Must be willing and available to travel within Latin America (up to 10% of time).

  • Some potential time in the field visiting Conserva Aves projects.
