Type: full-time

Job Description:

Starform is looking for a full-time Senior UI Designer to help us take our live game to the next level. Want to join, and immediately help shape our future? As a live, cross-platform game, your work will be in the hands of millions of players within weeks. If that sounds like a blast, then hit us up!

We're a start-up studio building cross-platform games based in downtown Seattle. We launched our first game in November 2023 and we've been steadily growing since. The studio is funded by BITKRAFT Ventures, VGames, 1Up Ventures. The founders here were previously in leadership roles on titles played by over 200M gamers around the globe.

We design player-focused experiences that balance successful conventions with fresh, innovative solutions where they matter. We believe in solving complex problems with simple, intuitive, and useful designs, and recognize that UI informs a major part of any player's first impressions.

Responsibilities
  1. Work with the Art Director to establish UI art direction, brand and style guides, and maintain and improve stylistic consistency throughout the game, and across web, social media, and marketing efforts.
  2. Partner with the Lead Designer to create high-fidelity UI proposals that are intuitive, engaging, and accessible, and align with product and design goals, and brand standards.
  3. Create your own fully-realized final UI mockups and assets, including clear, beautiful icons and other elements of graphic design, slick UI animation, and creating or directing any supporting imagery needs from the art team.
  4. Implementing your UI and animation directly in the game engine, collaborating closely with engineers on any necessary data hookups.
  5. Iterate on your designs based on feedback from the team, alpha testers, and live customers in order to improve polish and usability.
  6. Work with the Producer and leads to break down new features and UI initiatives to account for all relevant work - including downstream work. Proactively communicate the status of deliverables as they are in progress.

Requirements
  1. You have 5+ years of work experience as a UI Artist or UI Designer for games.
  2. You have worked on, shipped, and then supported at least one previous game built in Unity, Unreal or an equivalent engine.
  3. You possess strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and consistency. You are a champion for naming conventions, clean organization, and double-checking your own work.
  4. Your skills in tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, and Figma are exceeded only by your passion for the subject. From hand-crafting icons and vector illustration, to typography and graphic design, you are a 2D powerhouse.
  5. You understand the unique challenges of building UI and assets that are intuitive, clear, and usable on a wide variety of devices and platforms, including mobile, desktop, and console. You are up on all the latest best practices because you've got your finger on the pulse of the UX/UI world.
  6. You are an excellent communicator in person, in writing, and through visual documentation. You are great at pitching concepts, and also explaining details for implementation. You can give and receive feedback with equanimity, style, and grace.
  7. You have VFX and/or motion graphics experience, using After Effects or a similar program. Your expertise with motion improves the usability of your designs, adds polish, and brings the experience to life.
  8. Bonuses: experience working on both mobile and desktop, familiarity with F2P, and a genuine love of both mobile games and team-based competitive games.
