Staff Attorney – Probate

The State of Connecticut, Judicial Branch, Office of the Probate Court Administrator seeks an experienced attorney for the full-time position of Staff Attorney – Probate. The position reports to the Chief Counsel – Probate and provides legal support to the Probate Courts.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Researches and analyzes legal questions and issues; analyzes reports and prepares summaries on legal implications and issues; provides administrative support to Probate Courts; reviews cases for jurisdictional and/or procedural problems; prepares data entries for computerized issue-tracking system; completes legal research projects as directed; may make recommendations on motions to judges; may attend motion hearings and court conferences; develops and implements strategies for effective case flow management; performs related duties as required.
Salary Range: $93,936 - $140,884 annually – plus State of Connecticut benefits.
New employees begin at the minimum. The starting salary for existing state employees may be higher than the minimum, in accordance with existing Judicial Branch policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE. SKILL AND ABILITY: Considerable knowledge of and demonstrated ability in legal research; considerable oral and written communication skills; knowledge of law and legal process, legal principles and judicial practice; ability to analyze legal issues; interpersonal skills; ability to utilize legal and other computerized databases; computer skills.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
General Experience: Membership in the Connecticut Bar for a minimum of five (5) years and experience in the practice of law in the probate field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Required to have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and a motor vehicle available for daily business use. May be required to travel during the course of daily work.
