Established in 1998 at Indiana University, the GlobalNOC's mission is to advance the future of research, education, and the public interest through the support and evolution of networks. With our staff of 120 plus, we provide comprehensive contracted network management services to over 20 large-scale networks. As part of Indiana University, we operate as a non-profit; we focus on developing great technical staff, and providing excellent service to our clients.


GlobalNOC network engineers have an exciting role designing, deploying, configuring, and troubleshooting networks for clients across the nation and their connections around the globe. Job Summary



This position is situated in GlobalNOC's Indiana Engineering Team.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Works with other technical staff, management, and members to understand and address a variety of operational problems in wide area networks (WANs) ethernet service deployment, statewide internet service provider and individual higher education campus services.

  • Helps create accurate documentation and entries in our DB for network management.

  • Maintains, implements, configures, upgrades and performs maintenance on equipment including: Juniper routers, Arista and Juniper switches, and Ciena converged packet optical platforms.

  • Handles network emergencies, troubleshoots connectivity issues, answers trouble tickets, and participates in an on-call rotation.

General Responsibilities


  • Provides design, evaluation, development, and deployment of network system software and hardware technology.

  • Identifies and resolves problems, issues, and assignments in providing daily network operational support.

  • Implements improvements to ensure network performance and reliability.

  • Performs basic network analysis to support the growth and expansion of IU-managed networks.

  • Assists project teams and addresses technical network issues.

EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree.


Preferred



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information technology, or a related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE



Preferred



  • Experience with network device and policy configuration on Juniper.

  • Working with Ansible and Git.

  • Scripting in Perl or Python.

  • Experience using a trouble ticketing system.

  • Experience installing networking equipment.

  • Experience working with both AC and DC power.

  • Experience running fiber/copper connections.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver¿s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.

  • Ability to communicate with customers' organizations at several levels over technologies such as Slack and Zoom/Meet/Teams.




Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.


Travel will sometimes be required to customer sites to install, test, and turn up their WAN connections.

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
