General Description

The Assistant Superintendent position is responsible for assisting the Project Superintendent with the day-to-day site construction activities and supervises all field personnel including sub-contractors as required to successfully complete the project on schedule and within budget. This includes maintaining the highest quality, supervising all trade and field personnel, while administering good construction safety practices with all on-site activities.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Assist and coordinate all construction activities.

  • Assist with directing all field personnel and sub-contractors to achieve completion of the project on schedule, within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to original plans and specifications.

  • Build & maintain construction schedules, identifies, and solves problems.

  • Order materials and schedules inspections as necessary throughout construction.

  • Read & understand the project plans & specifications.

  • Act as technical professional for the estimating team.

  • Lead the project team in planning and execution of project work plans and other project submittals and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.

  • Maintain positive relationships with customers, sub-contractors, suppliers, and other employees.

  • Promote job site safety, encourage safe work practices, and rectifies job site hazards immediately.

  • Ensure all company employees and contractors are adhering to the company safety policy.

  • Maintain an organized and clean job site, including the construction office, and job site equipment and vehicles.

  • Coordinate with designated Quality Control and Health and Safety representatives to ensure Bristol and project standards are met.

  • Minimize company exposure and project performance risks.

  • Supervise subcontractor and vendor procurement, material buyout and logistics coordination, preparation of subcontract scoping documents and consent packages, and subcontractor selection following applicable FAR and project requirements as needed.

  • Prepare field reports, quantity tracking, applications for payment, and other project reporting documents as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks, to prioritize and organize, work well under stress in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work flexible hours as required to meet deadlines.

  • Skilled Microsoft Excel and Word. Familiarity with commercial scheduling software such as MSProject or Primavera P6.

  • Ability to perform tasks in a safe and responsible manner.

  • Knowledge of supervising all aspects of construction projects for various types of clients and project delivery methods.

  • Knowledge of the estimating process.

  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards.

Required Qualification:


  • High school diploma or GED is required.

  • Minimum of one to five years of recent experience as a Project Superintendent, Foreman, Craftsman (with supervisory duties), or Quality Control for construction projects.

  • Ability to obtain OSHA 30 certification.

  • Experience with projects ranging from $1MM to $30MM.

  • Valid driver’s license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with self-performance crew is preferred.

  • Mobility: Must be able to stoop, kneel, reach, walk, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.

  • Hearing: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.

  • Visual Acuity: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.

  • Lifting: Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
