The Mental Health Counselor is a member of the Division of Student Affairs and has as its primary mission providing short term solution focused therapy, including assessment/evaluation, crisis responding, outreach and prevention services, and consultation to faculty, students, staff and families.

Description of duties is as follows:

• Provide brief individual and group psychotherapy and crisis intervention to SUNY Maritime students
• Conduct mental status assessments and make recommendations regarding students' psychological welfare
• Maintains accurate and current records of all activities, including clinical records
• Provide skills training to members of the community, both informally for individuals and in a formal manner for staff, faculty and students
• Participate in departmental meetings and committees, represent department through college and division committees and activities
• Develops, trains and participates with staff or students in presenting workshops to promote interpersonal and academic skills
• Provides faculty and staff consultation and resources in their work with students and encourages their participation in providing students both individual and group assistance
• Participates in the initial and on-going training of residence hall and other appropriate staff
• Oversees Graduate intern and provides supervision
• Supervises the Peer Educator group on campus and assists in them carrying out Counseling Services mission to students on campus
• Participation in Summer Sea Term program aboard the Empire Estate Training Ship on an annual basis

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in counseling, Social Work or related field
• Active (Unrestricted) New York State Driver License
• Must have a minimum of 3 years' experience providing mental health treatment
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office, and proficient typing skills for documentation in the Electronic Medical Record
• Outstanding customer service skills
• Ability to multitask performing several activities simultaneously
• Must be self-directed and motivated

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completion of Ph.D./Psy.D in Psychology, LCSW
• College counseling experience.
• Certification to supervise Graduate Interns (SIFI)

Additional Information:

Classification/Salary Range: The Mental Health Counselor is a UUP position. The anticipated salary range is $70,000 - 75,000. Salary will be commensurate with experience with an outstanding benefits package (for more information please see the UUP Benefits Summary). Special Notes: This is a full-time calendar year appointment UUP Position. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
