The shift for this position starts at 7:00 am, with a recap between night and day shifts. They work 12 hour shifts 7:00 am – 7:00 pm following a 2 on, 2 off then 3 on and 2 off, 2 on and 3 off schedule. This pattern repeats for 2 months, after which the shifts change to 7:00 pm to 7:00 am.

 GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Airport Duty Manager or higher authority, oversees landside and airside Airport Operations.  Directs and participates in the inspection of airfield facilities including, airport grounds, parking facilities, runways, taxiways, aircraft aprons, gate assignments, and service roadways to assure safety, security, and efficiency of operations.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. 


  • Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of airport operations staff engaged in monitoring airfield, airside, landside, terminal operations, security, safety, and other activities related to the welfare of passengers, airlines, tenants, and the public.

  • Develops and implements airport operational policies, procedures, rules, and regulations for safety and certification manuals. Updates the Airport Emergency Plan, Snow/Ice Control Plan, and Wildlife Hazard Management Plan as needed.  Gathers and compiles information to develop presentations for meetings and/or senior management on various projects as assigned.

  • Inspects runways, taxiways, aircraft parking aprons, and fuel facilities for hazards to assure compliance with the Airport Certification Manual and FAA Part 139, coordinates with appropriate parties for corrective actions.

  • Reviews and acts on behalf of airport management on operational problems involving airport safety, security, federal certification, and related matters as they impact the airlines, tenants, passengers, and the general public; resolves operational problems by ordering actions or notifying appropriate airport, airline or security personnel; reviews report of problems or incidents and recommends and implements appropriate remediation.

  • Serves as Incident Coordinator/Commander during crisis situations, aircraft accidents and incidents, natural disasters, inclement weather events, and security incidents.

  • Coordinates airport operations with users, tenants, stakeholders, and government agencies (FAA, TSA, CBP, USDA, NCDOT)

  • Issues NOTAMS and other airfield advisories to provide situational awareness of operating environment.

  • Responds to environmental hazards; coordinates cleanup efforts with emergency response agencies, tenants, contractors, and airlines.

  • Plans and executes emergency management training with Mutual Aid responders including tabletops and full-scale exercises for proper Incident Command procedures.

  • Monitors airport property for policy, safety, and security compliance; recommends and takes corrective actions.

  • Responds to various incidents with some incidents requiring investigations and reports.

  • Fills the role of Airport Duty Manager during their absence.

  • Provides immediate information to the Airport Duty Manager or on call Communications, Government & Community Affairs employee in support of media requests.

  • Performs additional related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Required:


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, airport administration, airport operations, or a related field OR equivalent related work experience.

 Experience:

Required:


  • 2 years of experience working in a civilian or military airport operations department

Preferred:


  • 4 years of experience working in a civilian or military airport operations department

  • 2 years of supervisory experience

 Licenses or Certifications:

Required:


  • Valid NC Driver’s License

  • ICS 100 and 200 completed within 6 months of start date.

  • OSHA 10-hour course withing 6 months of start date

  • Obtain and maintain movement and non-movement driver certification within 3 months of employment start date.

  • Completion of the ACI-NA Airport Customer Experience Specialist Program within 24 months

  • Completion of the ACI Certificate in Team Leadership within 24 months

  • AAAE ASOS Basic required or must obtain within 12 months of start date.

  • AAAE ASOS Advanced required or must obtain within 24 months of start date.

  • Analyze situations quickly and objectively, and to determine and implement a proper course of action in emergency situations.

  • Operate airport operations vehicles and operate two-way and VHF radios, mobile telephones, personal computers, and wildlife pyrotechnics.

  • Work 12-hour rotating shifts to include daytime, nighttime, weekends, and holidays.

  • May be required to work unscheduled hours or recalled for unforeseen emergency situations.
