The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Science at Marshall University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants must have a PhD in biology or a related field, at least two years of relevant postdoctoral experience, and a research program incorporating vertebrate functional anatomy, including comparative, gross, and/or microscopic anatomy. The successful candidate is expected to introduce innovative research approaches to the department. We will consider applicants with research programs in any vertebrate taxon but are especially interested in candidates with an interest in mammalian systems and questions that integrate anatomical and morphological methods with functional questions in extant organisms. A research program that expands on and forms collaborations within existing strengths in the department, including evolution, organismal biology, ecology, physiology, and molecular biology, is highly desirable. Our department and university offer extensive resources, including comprehensive vertebrate collections, advanced microscopy and molecular/bioinformatics core facilities, and a newly renovated anatomy teaching space. Teaching responsibilities will predominantly be in the department's core courses for biology majors, which depending on the successful candidates expertise may include human anatomy, vertebrate comparative anatomy, or microanatomy/histology. The hire will also be expected to develop and teach new graduate and upper-level undergraduate courses in their specific area of expertise. Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required. Our Department and College value exemplary teaching and research. The successful candidate will possess an independent, collaborative, and competitive research program that demonstrates strong funding potential and involves undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the candidate will demonstrate a commitment to enthusiastic, innovative, and inclusive teaching.
