Purpose and Scope of Job:
Maintenance and Repair of CNC/PLC-based manufacturing machines & assembly equipment in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Improve machine repeatability and reliability through a variety of assignments, including, but not limited to: machine installation, overhaul, diagnosis & repair, pipefitting, fabrication, welding, and electrical runs.
Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):
Maintenance, Diagnosis & Repair:
Manufacturing: CNC and manual machines (vertical & horizontal milling machines, lathes, multitasking/mill-turn combination machines, boring machines, grinders, drills, gear cutting machines, broaches, facing/centering machines, bandsaws, plasma cutting machines, press brakes, welding equipment, media blasting equipment and robotics).
Assembly: (Cranes, Electrical testing panels, Air leak testers, Forklifts, PLC controlled dispensing equipment, Carousals, Paint/drying booths, scales & conveyor systems, Hydraulic presses, Parts washers, Ovens/Bearing heaters, Packaging machines).
Facilities equipment: HVAC, Air Compressors, Overhead doors
Connect power/air/water lines to equipment, and test unit to evaluate its mechanical operation. Be a resource to Manufacturing Engineering for capability studies and trial runs on new installations.
Use of alignment and measuring instruments, set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts.
Replace defective parts on machines or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts.
Responsible for ensuring compliance of all safety and regulatory standards in SMA's manufacturing & Assembly environment.
Champion a culture of continuous improvement in the assigned areas.
Able to work rotating shifts and weekends (non-production) downtime.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; Technical Associates degree desired but not required.
Minimum 8-10 years' experience: operation/maintenance of CNC machines, or process industry electrical/mechanical controls, or robotic machine operation/maintenance.
Understand & interpret control schematics, mechanical, and electrical engineering drawings
Understand Mechanical, Electrical, & Control systems in manufacturing equipment.
Competent understanding of welding & fabrication, plumbing, & electric installations.
Understanding of mechanical alignment fundamentals.
Basic computer skills (understanding of MS Office

Work Conditions & Physical Environment:
Duties are performed in an industrial environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; twist; bend; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee must constantly lift, carry, move, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
