Job Description:

This paraprofessional position is responsible for the City's utility billing system, maintains special assessments, and assists with general journal entries and year end processes. This position serves as a backup to the Accounting Clerk, Payroll Accountant and certain Accountant duties.

Hours and Pay

  • 40 hours per week; regular workweek is Monday through Friday
  • $30.38 to $40.50 per hour non-exempt
  • Guaranteed pay increases

Job Duties
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Works with ongoing utility billing procedures including reviewing reports, preparing and processing bills and payments.
  • Provides information to customers and resolves questions.
  • Receives payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.
  • Prepares and maintains delinquent water and sewer bills for the annual assessment process.
  • Provides backup for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Backup to reconciliation of banking transactions, wire transfers, and credit card payments daily.
  • Classifies, records, and summarizes numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals and ledgers or computers.
  • Assists with year-end journal entries, reports, etc.
  • Examines or analyzes accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Assists with the preparation of the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and annual audit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Minimum:

  • Four-year Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field

Desired:

  • Three (3) years of accounting, finance, or related experience (Experience may include internships, cash drawer reconciliation, bank telling, etc.)
  • Advanced training in Microsoft Excel
  • Customer service experience
