What you'll Do

The Manager, Associate Relations will help to ensure our organization's treatment of every associate is fair, respectful, and consistent with our Company values, policies and our objective of being an Employer of Choice. This position is responsible for managing employment risk by helping to ensure our work environment is free from harassment and discrimination and is in compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. This position's responsibilities fall into proactive and reactive categories and balancing time between reactive (crisis-response) matters and proactive work is a critical component for success in the position.


  • Manage Associate Relations processes to ensure a proactive, fair, and consistent approach to resolutions by developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with associates and managers.
  • Create and maintain all required documentation in compliance with state, federal and local regulations, as well as company policy.
  • Provide HR support in responding to ethics and compliance hotline reports related to Associate Relations issues. Conduct or assist in workplace investigations where critical Associate Relations issues or challenging associate situations are raised.
  • Design and implementation of performance management systems, including performance evaluations, corrective actions, feedback mechanisms, and performance improvement plans.
  • Recommend, develop, and facilitate Associate Relations training (including employment regulatory and legal requirements; policies and procedures; discipline and discharge and positive Associate Relations) to a variety of audiences, including managers and associates that communicate best Associate Relations practices and strategies, on a formal and informal basis. Ensure consistency in application.
  • Investigate, analyze, negotiate, and resolve complex and important Associate Relations issues in a timely and effective manner, where appropriate. Analyze information and data necessary to define and discern cost and policy implications of resolution, negotiations and disputes. Collaborate with Legal as needed.
  • Prepare monthly, annual, and ad hoc reports and presentations including reports and analytics monitoring Associate Relations trends and identify areas for improvement or intervention. Based on trends, make recommendations to senior leaders on solutions that will continue to protect the health, morale, and productivity of the Americold team.
  • Participate in conducting and analyzing the results of associate surveys, round tables, focus groups, or exit interviews uncovering trends and actions for improvement. Specifically review exit interview responses to provide follow-up outreach to associates and managers to investigate as necessary. Shares trends with HR or leadership that leads to improvement or sustainability.

What Experience and Education You Need


  • 5+ years direct experience in Associate Relations or Human Resources with an emphasis on Associate Relations work
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working with and applying employment & labor laws and regulations throughout the United States
  • Technically proficient in Office 365/Teams; MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint; SharePoint; Adobe
  • Experience assessing complex data sets, developing recommendations based on assessments, and influencing action by business leaders

  • Experience working with and applying employment & labor laws and regulations throughout Canada
  • Experience in union environments and traditional labor issues
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with extreme discretion
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet deadlines, often in stressful and high-pressure situations

Physical Requirements

  • Requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, with frequent interruptions
  • Requires several hours per day of sitting, getting up and down from chairs, and reaching, or bending
  • Requires manual dexterity with normal hand and finger movements for typical office work
  • Talking, hearing, and seeing are important elements of completing assigned tasks
  • May require travel by automobile and airplane for business
  • May require visits to warehouse operations in temperatures at or below freezing
  • May require carrying loads related to travel and the occasional lifting, carrying, positioning, and/or moving of objects weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Requires the use of various electronic tools
