Job Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW:



We seek an enthusiastic individual to join our Social Emergency Medicine research team. Our team leads research to identify disparities and, in partnership with communities, to develop and rigorously test novel interventions to solve these inequities. We also train residents and fellows to understand the structural factors impacting the lived experience of our patients and the institutional and population health frameworks in which we function. The Social Emergency Medicine research team is part of the Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine and the Emergency Medicine Network (EMNet), a consortium of emergency departments focused on public health research.


The Senior Program Manager will lead a portfolio of quantitative and qualitative research projects, help to develop and prioritize new initiatives, and co-create team strategy with the Principal Investigator (PI). The Senior Program Manager will be responsible for day-to-day supervision of clinical research coordinators and project managers within the Social EM program, and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and a background in research. Experience in qualitative methods and involvement with large clinical trials is also desirable. The Senior Program Manager will have multiple opportunities for interaction with other researchers in Boston, as well as collaboration with many national and international research groups and institutions.



PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


Develop and prioritize strategic goals


  • In partnership with the PI, identify opportunities for future research, including co-creation of grant applications for new projects

  • In partnership with the PI, determine team strategic goals and plan

  • Adapt collaborative projects to the MGB environment for successful implementation

Research operations

  • Manage operations of a large clinical trial of social needs navigational strategies

  • Lead implementation of specific studies

  • Manage study staff, particularly regarding operational issues

  • Assist in the training of new employees

  • Prioritize logistical and administrative aspects of multiple research studies including overseeing reporting requirements, communications and drafting reports, as needed

  • Perform literature reviews and synthesize relevant data; edits manuscripts

  • Present at national and international scientific meetings

Research Administration, Strengthening communication and alignment among project team

  • Support team during and between meetings, including but not limited to: preparing agendas, minutes and follow-up on action items from meetings, prioritizing research deliverables to meet deadlines, and other tasks as needed

  • Identify challenges and present solutions to PI and project teams

  • Other duties as assigned




SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:



  • Capacity to organize complex projects and diverse staff members

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks and projects/program, meet deadlines, and manage schedule.

  • Ability to make independent, effective decisions

  • Superior writing, presentation, and organizational ability, as well as excellent communication skills

  • Ability to efficiently respond to time critical issues

  • Ability to oversee and train research assistants and others on the team in collaborative projects

  • Ability to work within NIH and other federal and foundation regulations and guidelines

  • Strong data management and overall computer skills; ability to learn new computer applications

  • Demonstrated analytical skills to problem solve effectively

Qualifications

EDUCATION:



Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.



EXPERIENCE:



Minimum of 7 years of research experience (inclusive of graduate studies) required.

Number of employees supervised (direct): 4



WORKING CONDITIONS:



  • Duties will be carried out in a typical hybrid office environment; most days will be on-site in the office, with some remote work considered as appropriate.

  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
