GeoSearch has an immediate need for a Lidar Calibration Manager to work on-site in Colorado Springs, CO!
This position will be responsible for overseeing the production processes of LiDAR systems and will report to the Director of Lidar. This role ensures that all calibration activities are carried out efficiently, safely, and within budget, while meeting the quality standards set by the company. The Manager will lead a team of production staff supervising, scheduling and performing activities required in producing Lidar data products. This position is also responsible for working with sales, flight operations, pricing and finance when required to support proposals, and reporting in addition to the planning and execution of data production for multiple projects across the country. This includes managing assigned staff and resources while maintaining procedures and workflows to meet and/or exceed company-wide standards for quality control and production timelines. The Lidar Calibration Manager is responsible for troubleshooting data and workflow problems, managing software processes and working with quality control in coordination with other groups such as information technology, and program management.
Responsibilities:
Oversee daily LiDAR calibration activities to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products
Initial Quality Check: Verify data completeness, ensuring no gaps and proper overlap between flight lines and all other specifications are met. Verify there were no sensor or other instrumentation malfunctions during acquisition
Calibration: Perform rigorous calibration using reference targets to correct any systematic errors
Accuracy Assessment: Verify the horizontal and vertical accuracy against known control points. Ensure the data meets the required accuracy standards (e.g., RMSE less than specified thresholds)
Reporting: Acquisition reporting
Develop and implement production schedules to meet customer demands and project timelines
Optimize production processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and lower costs
Develop, manage, and update project schedule and activity tracking including project timeline estimation and task assignments
Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with datasets and workflows
Lead, coach, and develop a team of production technicians
Foster a positive and productive work environment that encourages teamwork and continuous improvement
Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to team members.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages the assigned functions and related department production staff to include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and supervising work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and escalating complaints to management.
Education:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in GIS, Computer Science, or Engineering. or related field. Preference to have a master's degree and/or CMS.
Experience:
Proven experience with LiDAR systems. A minimum of 4 years' experience in lidar calibration, lidar classification, and lidar product generation consistent with geospatial industry standards (ASPRS Specifications, FEMA, Specifications, and USGS Lidar Base Specifications). Knowledge of lidar processing technology, ABGNSS/IMU data and its use, lidar calibration techniques, lidar accuracy assessment and reporting. Familiarity of FGDC metadata standards. Must have the ability to supervise a group of technical non-exempt and exempt employees, maintaining a high degree of motivation and focus on department goals.
