Our client is seeking a System Engineer in New York, NY.


Role Description


Role and Responsibilities:


The System Engineer will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining complex data center systems that support AI and HPC applications.


Objectives of this role:


Ensure AI and HPC systems operate at peak efficiency.
Develop and deploy infrastructure to handle increasing workloads and scale as needed.
Maintain high levels of system uptime and reliability.
Ensure smooth integration of various system components and technologies.
Protect systems and data from security threats and ensure regulatory compliance.
Resolve technical issues and provide support to users and developers.
Streamline and automate system management and deployment tasks.
Advance the capabilities and performance of AI and HPC systems.
Foster effective collaboration with other teams and stakeholders.
Maintain comprehensive records and share knowledge effectively.


Key Responsibilities:


Infrastructure Planning: Design and architect hardware and software infrastructure for AI and HPC applications, including selecting and configuring servers, storage, and network components.
Integration: Ensure seamless integration of system components to create an efficient environment for executing complex computations.
Benchmarking and Tuning: Conduct performance benchmarking and tuning to maximize the efficiency of AI models and HPC workloads.
Load Balancing: Implement load balancing and resource management strategies to distribute computational tasks effectively.
System Setup: Oversee the deployment and configuration of AI and HPC systems, including setting up operating systems, drivers, and necessary software frameworks.
Automation: Develop and maintain scripts and tools for automating system deployment, configuration, and monitoring tasks to streamline operations and reduce manual intervention.
Monitoring: Continuously monitor system performance and health, using tools and techniques to identify and address issues proactively.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues that may arise, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing AI and HPC operations.
Security: Implement security measures to protect systems from unauthorized access, data breaches, and other threats. This includes configuring firewalls, access controls, and encryption mechanisms.
Compliance: Ensure that systems comply with relevant industry standards and regulations, including data protection and privacy requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with AI researchers, data scientists, and HPC developers to understand their requirements and provide tailored solutions that support their work.
Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides to facilitate knowledge sharing and ensure consistency.


Skills & Requirements


Required skills and qualifications:


A Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is typically required. Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Linux+, Red Hat Certified Engineer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) can be beneficial.
5 or more years of experience working as a system engineer in HPC (High-Performance Computing) or AI solutions.
Strong understanding of AI and HPC technologies, including hardware (like GPUs, CPUs, and networking) and software (like machine learning frameworks, parallel computing, and data management solutions).
Proven track record of working on complex projects involving AI and HPC systems, including system design, deployment, and optimization.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex system issues efficiently.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with other teams (e.g., AI researchers, developers) and to document and share knowledge clearly.


Preferred skills and qualifications:


Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines and achieve objectives.
Flexibility and adaptability to work in a rapidly evolving field and to handle changes in technology and project requirements.
