This is what you will do:



As the Device Development Co-op, your responsibilities will encompass supporting the development and optimization of drug delivery devices, container closure systems, and/or combination products for Alexion's therapeutic protein candidates. Working alongside fellow device engineers, you will have the chance to apply engineering principles while gaining insights into the convergence of pharmaceuticals and engineering. Your participation on the Device Development team promises a dynamic learning experience, affording you the opportunity to engage in firsthand experimentation, enhance technical skills, and partake in collaborative problem-solving within the realm of combination product development.



You will be responsible for:



  • Working with device engineers to support the development of combination products or devices. Activities may include:

    • Developing and executing studies in the lab to characterize devices, container closure systems, and/or combination products.

    • Conducting carefully planned experiments to identify effective approaches for disassembling complex devices, ensuring safety and efficiency in the disassembly process. Acquiring proficiency in executing method development, qualification/validation, and honing technical writing abilities.

    • Learn and support design control documentations throughout the lifecycle of device development.

    • Executing literature searches to investigate innovative technologies and compile supporting data for existing programs



  • Collaborating with cross functional team including device development, regulatory, quality, clinical operations, and device suppliers.

  • Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing, internally across departments and with external stakeholders.

  • Complying with the Company's quality assurance requirements as well as applicable regulatory requirements




Requirements:



  • Understanding/coursework in the fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering

  • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited University for the duration of a co-op assignment pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree

  • Must be available during the full co-op term and maintain general availability during standard business hours

  • Ability/desire to learn new techniques

  • Experience with various MS Office programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to work independently while balancing multiple projects and initiatives while executing results

  • The duties of this role are conducted in an office/lab environment. As is typical of an office-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.
