Job Summary


The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville is accepting applications for a full-time Associate Instructor in Machine Tool Technology position at the Ruth & Steve West Workforce Development Center. The typical work schedule is 7.5 hours per day and 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:30 am-3:30 pm, with a 30-minute lunch break.



Job Duties




  • Instruction: Facilitate the classroom instructional process (post-secondary/secondary/special industry): evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic assistance to students; maintain attendance and grade records; counsel and advise students on career goals; work to retain students; maintain required classroom and office hours. Maintain appropriate records and submit timely reports.


  • Course and Curriculum Development: Select texts, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources; participate in purchasing needed program supplies and equipment; develop instructional materials; create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi.


  • Professional Development: Remain current within the instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process.


  • Service to Students: Comply with FERPA laws; participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students; assist students with job placement; support student activities, including SkillsUSA, NTHS, graduation, and other events.


  • Service to the College and Community: Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned; participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes; support and participate in the College's decision-making processes; provide input and assistance with budgets; attend convocation and commencement exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues; develop industry partnerships, maintain an active program advisory committee; work to meet and exceed COE benchmarks for student completion and placement as well as accreditation standards. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administration, on and off campus. - (Essential)



Minimum Qualifications


* Minimum of Associate degree or equivalent post-secondary diploma from an accredited technical training program in the related field
* Three (3) years of full-time, related work experience as a machinist within the last five (5) years
* Must have knowledge of and the ability to operate conventional machinist and computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment
* Must commit to remain current in the machinist field and maintain program accrediting status




Preferred Qualifications


* NIMS and/or industry certification
* Teaching experience
* Knowledge of Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) policies and procedures
* Skill in managing deadlines and working in a team-oriented environment




Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


* Must possess the organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher
* Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office applications, email, etc.) are required
* Indication of willingness to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and business/industry personnel
* Commitment to remaining current with industry practices through professional development activities



SALARY: In accordance with Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines, within the range of $55,156-$66,188.
