Job Description:

SUMMARY:
The mission of the Quality Assurance Manager is to support the Business Units in the implementation and maintenance of quality systems for the manufacture of canned food. Support the BU's in the identification of quality related issues and report quality trends to the organization while supporting the plant objectives of safety, quality, productivity, and customer service.

In the event of an absence, the duties of this position will be covered by the Quality Engineer/Supervisor who has successfully been trained on the functions of Quality Assurance Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Management is responsible for the adherence of the plant and the QA Department to the principles of the company quality system. This is accomplished by directing the plant efforts and keeping all groups focused on compliance to the program. This insures that all products manufactured are of the proper quality and wholesome for the consumer.
Manage the design and implementation of the Food Safety Policy and the Food Safety Management System (FSMS). Coordinate the drive for FDA regulatory compliance and SQF certification and continued compliance with the Standards. These certifications have a major impact on the company's future business opportunities, especially those relating to exporting of our products.
Plan, organize, implement and maintain quality systems within the plant, including SOP's, SSOP's, web based document control and HACCP programs. Follow up to determine and resolve root cause of failures.
Direct responsibility, as well as the immediate supervisory responsibility for the QA Departments (Quality Systems, QA Labs, and Custodial), their team members and their development. Accomplished through the proper training, development and appraisals.
Direct responsibility for interacting with the FDA, USDA, State and other regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and resolve any issues.
Work as a communication interface with corporate R&D.
Direct responsibility to generate and control QA department budget within plant guidelines.
Maintain all records required by FDA, USDA and Arizona Regulatory Departments. Prepare and submit government reports as required. Provide technical, regulatory, and scientific environmental guidance, as needed, to the organization.
Maintain an organized, clean and safe work area. Champion the company policies concerning GMPs.
Comply with all standard safety practices, safety guidelines, and all Company guidelines and policies.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's Degree (B.A., or B.S), preferably in Food Science or other related science field, or equivalent from four-year College or university; and a minimum of eight to ten years related experience in a FDA/USDA Regulated environment with a minimum of four years in a managerial or supervisory capacity. Working knowledge of SAP is preferred. Must be able to understand and follow directions. Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Must be able to work extended hours and/or overtime as required. Must be able to participate in job development training, such as equipment cross-training and team development training.

Language Skills: Ability to effectively read, write, speak and comprehend English. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, customers or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.

Work is performed primarily in an office setting in a fast-paced manufacturing and production environment. When performing jobs on the plant production floor, work requires possible exposure to all temperature changes, high noise levels, working around moving equipment, electrical hazards, tanks, heights, fumes, chemicals, vibrations, dust, etc.
Working hours must be flexible with the ability to work on all shifts and extended hours as required.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
