Job Description:

Position: Renewal Underwriter

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Hybrid (2 days in office)

Responsibilities:

Risk Assessment and Proactive Measures:

Gather, analyze, and evaluate risk exposure using appropriate risk documentation.

Recommend proactive actions to enhance risk profitability.

Underwriting Expertise:

Apply knowledge of coverage forms, rating plans, and guidelines to price individual risks accurately.

Ensure proper classification and adherence to company underwriting standards.

Customer Interaction:

Handle incoming calls from agents regarding coverage inquiries and policy adjustments.

Conduct outbound calls to close out inquiries or transactions.

Collaboration and Profitability:

Work within authority levels to quote, accept, decline, modify, and renew risks.

Collaborate with agents, regional underwriters, and other departments for a profitable book of business.

Effective Communication:

Provide guidance to agents and communicate underwriting decisions clearly.

Relationship Building and Teamwork:

Develop strong relationships with internal and external customers.

Support team goals and decisions.

Business Growth and Analysis:

Cross-sell additional coverage to increase renewal premiums.

Analyze profit and growth by territory and agency.

Professional Development:

Conduct agency visits as needed.

Mentor lower-level staff and specialize in commercial lines.

Qualifications:

• College degree preferred
• 2-5 years of underwriting experience
• Ability to communicate with internal and external customers and colleagues.
• Ability to adapt to change
• Valid state-issued driver's license
