The Role



In this role, Reporting to the Director of Drug Product Supply Chain, you will be instrumental in managing and optimizing Moderna's tactical planning processes. This role will focus on aligning production & Supply planning across internal and external sites, ensuring material availability, and supporting late-phase clinical trials and commercial activities.


This position is a critical part of a dynamic environment where collaboration with internal teams, external manufacturers, and clinical teams is essential. You will be expected to provide subject matter expertise in planning processes, SAP functionality, and continuously improve planning efficiency for clinical and commercial production.



Here's What You'll Do




  • Tactical Supply Planning & Capacity Management:



  • Lead internal and external drug product planning processes for clinical operations. Collaborate with site planners to develop and execute optimized constrained production and supply plans, ensuring material availability, timely delivery, and alignment with Clinical Operations Planning (C&OP).


  • Oversee capacity planning across internal and external manufacturing sites, ensuring the ability to adapt quickly to changing clinical trial timelines and market needs. Implement flexible production strategies that respond to demand fluctuations while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.



  • Scenario and Risk Management:



  • Conduct advanced scenario planning and risk assessments to identify potential supply and demand gaps. Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to address production challenges, working closely with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to drive decision-making.



  • Cross-functional Stakeholder Collaboration:



  • Partner with key stakeholders in supply chain, manufacturing, quality, clinical operations, Clinical Supply and program management to ensure seamless coordination and on-time product delivery. Facilitate cross-functional alignment on priorities and drive key planning decisions.



  • Digital Transformation and Process Optimization:



  • Support digital transformation initiatives related to supply chain automation, leveraging advanced planning systems (e.g., SAP IBP, Kinaxis, Etc.) to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy. Champion continuous improvement efforts using Lean, Six Sigma, and data-driven methodologies to streamline workflows, reduce waste, and optimize production outcomes.



  • Data-driven Performance Monitoring:



  • Develop and utilize key performance indicators (KPIs) and other metrics to monitor, report, and improve planning and production performance. Conduct root cause analyses to resolve operational issues and ensure consistent achievement of supply chain targets, including on-time delivery and inventory management.



  • Supply Chain Standards and Regulatory Compliance:



  • Ensure adherence to supply chain and planning standards, integrating regulatory compliance into all planning activities. Collaborate with quality, regulatory, and compliance teams to ensure that production plans meet GMP, GDP, and other regulatory requirements.



  • Supplier and Vendor Relationship Management:



  • Manage relationships with both internal and external suppliers, driving performance improvements through effective demand and supply planning, order management, and collaborative issue resolution. Establish KPIs for supplier performance to ensure alignment with production timelines and quality standards.



  • Cross-functional Leadership in Commercialization and Clinical Trials:



  • Support the transition from clinical to commercial production by collaborating with R&D, manufacturing, and commercial teams. Develop planning strategies that enable rapid scale-up for late-phase clinical trials or commercialization, ensuring operational readiness and capacity to meet demand.





Here's What You'll Need (Basic Qualifications)




  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Science, Engineering, Economics, Finance, or a related field. Advanced degrees are preferred.



  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in supply chain or production planning within biotech, pharmaceutical, or batch manufacturing environments.





Here's What You'll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)




  • APICS/ASCM CPIM and CSCP certifications preferred.



  • LEAN / SIX SIGMA certifications (Green/Black Belt) preferred.


  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in EXCEL.




  • Technical Expertise:




  • 4-8+ years of hands-on experience with SAP Master Production Scheduling (MPS) and Material Requirements Planning (MRP). Experience with advanced planning systems (e.g., SAP IBP, Kinaxis, APS, ) is highly desirable.


  • Proven Data Analytics: good knowledge in data analytics platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, etc.) to support real-time decision-making.



  • Regulatory and Global Supply Chain Knowledge:



  • Strong knowledge of FDA, EMA, and other regulatory requirements related to clinical trial material supply. Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Distribution Practices (GDP).


  • Experience with global supply chains, including import/export regulations, customs documentation, and international logistics for clinical trial materials.



  • Leadership and Stakeholder Management:



  • Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate across functional boundaries, including R&D, clinical operations, regulatory, and manufacturing teams, in a complex multinational environment.


  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills, including the ability to manage internal and external stakeholders, such as vendors, third-party CMOs, and clinical teams.



  • Agility and Problem-Solving:



  • Proven ability to thrive in high-growth environments, demonstrating agility in managing rapid changes in clinical and commercial operations while making data-driven decisions to solve complex challenges.



  • Process Improvement and Change Management:



  • Preferable experience in change management and process optimization, with the ability to lead continuous improvement efforts using data-driven methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.


  • Demonstrated experience in utilizing root cause analysis to drive systemic improvements in planning and operational processes.


  • Focus on reducing waste, optimizing resource use, and integrating sustainability into supply chain processes.
