POSITION TITLE: Environmental Technician II
CLASSIFICATION: Nonexempt
DEPARTMENT: Department of Natural Resources
SUPERVISOR: Environmental Programs Manager
GRADE: NE5
Position Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Environmental Programs Manager at the Department of Natural Resources, provides support for the 1) assessment, collection, management, and analysis of data related to the Pueblos natural resources and 2) maintenance and monitoring of infrastructure related to the Pueblos natural resources. Assists with achieving deliverables for Environmental Division programs: Air Quality, Brownfields, Sustainability, and Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Collects data on air pollution, solid waste, and recycling on the Pueblo of Santa Ana Compiles and organizes databases Collects and manages data from Pueblo sensor stations Uses TEISS software to assist in creating emissions inventories for the Pueblo Creates and presents educational materials for Environmental Division programs Assists with the Pueblos brownfields inventory and performs regular site visits Assists with NALEMP activities and long-term monitoring of remediated sites Operates and maintains project related equipment Builds and maintains technical knowledge by conducting research; attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conference; reviews professional publications; confers with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations Assists in the development of environmental program goals Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
Ability to attains and maintains ASTM Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessment and HAZWOPER certifications within 120 days of employment
Ability to learn applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements pertaining to air quality.
Ability to learn new software.
Knowledge of department organization, functions, objectives, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the principles of environmental conservation and management.
Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment.
Skill in statistical compilation and analysis.
Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to exercise independent judgment.
Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social
and cultural backgrounds.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, requirements, ordinances and legislation.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work extended hours and to travel occasionally.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years experience in an environmental field or Associates Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Hydrology, Biology, or related field preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico drivers license and be insurable through the Pueblos insurance. Willingness to learn new computer programs, new concepts, and willingness to travel required.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level. Frequent work in the field is required where exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts may occur while performing outdoor duties. Standing and walking may be on uneven surfaces or unstable ground. Situations where safety-toe shoes, safety goggles, gloves, or protective face shields are needed may occur.
