The Lloyd C. Elam Mental Health Center (Elam MHC) is a division of the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, in the School of Medicine at Meharry Medical College. The Elam MHC Medical Director will have responsibility for the clinical and medical management for all Substance Abuse Services within the Lloyd C. Elam Mental Health Center. This will include direct or indirect clinical supervision of all staff assigned to the Elam Center.
Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities) - Assign a percentage to each essential function (equal to 100%):
Assume primary responsibility for quality of all Elam Center medical and clinical services through implementation of agency Quality Management Plan
Assume primary responsibility for treatment planning, discharge planning, and medical service delivery with regards to the operation of all Elam Center treatment services.
Provide regular supervision for clinical staff, per Department of Psychiatry organizational chart
Manages administrative responsibilities such as integration and coordination of medical, psychiatric and substance use disorder services, mentoring mid-level providers, ensuring clinical staff is continually trained and able to coordinate work responsibilities with other operating units of the department
Collaborates with faculty and psychiatry residency to determine clinical faculty and resident on-call schedules; ensures timely distribution of new and revised schedules

Acquire and maintain functional knowledge clinical chart reviews of patients, to assure compliance with all internal and funding agency accreditation standards for service delivery and documentation
Provides overall direction and coordination of internal continuing education programs and support for faculty and staff at Elam MHC
Collaborates with clinical staff to review and update Elam MHC policies and procedures

Actively participates in customer service related issues and adheres to Elam MHC values
Works with Quality Assurance Coordinator and Clinical Director to monitor and evaluate Elam MHC clinical programs

Participate in assessment and revision of treatment protocols for substance abuse disorder services according to evidence-based treatment
Assists in the design, implementation, and evaluation of new clinical programs
Participates in contract and grant negotiations and budget preparation
Participate in funding agency training activities, as required
