Job Description:

AY Manufacturing, Ltd., a Tier 1 assembler of Sunroofs for the automotive industry, is searching for a Manufacturing Engineer at our Columbus, Ohio facility.

Responsibilities include concept to implementation of new manufacturing and assembly equipment/methods as well as continuous improvement to current equipment to optimize cost, quality, efficiency, safety and delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Champion development of new equipment from design, specification approval, acquisition of necessary materials, fabrication, installation and troubleshooting.
  • Recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods, controls and safety initiatives.
  • Equipment Selection and Integration: Evaluate and select manufacturing equipment, machinery, and tooling required for automotive parts production.
  • Work closely with outside vendors and monitor project performance.
  • Ability to travel to vendors to manage sourcing activities, including international travel.
  • Project management experience managing complex equipment implementation (robots, PC, PLC).
  • Root cause analysis on production problems and concerns to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Hands on mentality as well as strong documentation/management skills; this position is 50% project/vendor management, 40% implementation, and 10% other tasks.
  • The Manufacturing Engineer will also engage with operations to identify opportunities to improve and collaborate with maintenance to provide a safe and efficient production environment
  • Perform process FMEA studies before equipment development to ensure countermeasures are reflected into the equipment specification.
  • Provide capacity studies and cost evaluations as needed for financial quotes or planning.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment with hands-on experience
  • Computer Proficiency (MS Office), AutoCAD and industry standard software applications
  • Effectively work with all internal departments and customers, as well as external customers and suppliers.
  • Positive attitude, strong self-motivation and demonstrate strong communication (verbal/written) skills
  • Ability to multi-task and solve complex problems thru analysis to propose and implement appropriate countermeasures based on timing, quality, and cost
  • Advanced knowledge of safety requirements
  • Ability to solve complex problems through analysis and propose / implement appropriate countermeasures
