Position Title: Staff Packaging Engineer

Business Group: Global Logistics & Distribution

Reports To: Packaging Engineering Manager

Position Overview

At Air Distribution Technologies, Inc., our Staff Packaging Engineers are experts in creating innovative packaging solutions for our global product lines. In this role, you will play a crucial part in designing, developing, and optimizing packaging systems to support product launches while reducing costs and minimizing damage. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including new product development, manufacturing, logistics, and external partners, ensuring packaging designs meet operational, customer, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Packaging Solutions Design: Lead the design and development of efficient packaging materials, processes, and systems that optimize logistics, minimize costs, and ensure product protection.
  • Damage Control: Monitor freight damage metrics and implement corrective actions to prevent future issues, contributing to a reduction in product damage during transportation.
  • Packaging Standards Development: Create, document, and enforce packaging standards that align with the company's operational excellence and quality objectives.
  • Compliance & Sustainability: Ensure packaging meets international regulatory requirements, including those for dangerous goods, and develop sustainable solutions that align with long-term environmental goals.
  • Project Management: Lead packaging projects from concept to completion, ensuring on-time delivery, budget adherence, and alignment with product launch timelines.
  • Collaboration & Influence: Work effectively across a large matrixed organization, influencing internal and external stakeholders, including manufacturing, logistics, and governmental agencies, to ensure packaging designs meet the needs of all parties.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Packaging, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: At least five years of packaging engineering experience, ideally in a custom manufacturing environment handling small to large equipment.
  • Specialized Skills: Experience with returnable packaging solutions is preferred. Proficiency in ISTA and ASTM package performance testing standards and methods.
  • Bilingual Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills in both Spanish and English.
  • Project Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage projects, negotiate effectively, and deliver high-quality results within deadlines.
