Job Description:

POSITION TITLE: Manufacturing Engineer

REPORTS TO: Director Of Operations; President

POSITION SUMMARY: Quote parts, process new jobs, develop tooling designs, create dated prints, and applies knowledge of specific departmental procedures, operating techniques, and Company policies. Also uses CAM software to create tool paths, Tool Lists, and Setup Sheets for use on CNC equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Determines job costs and prepares quotes for new and old jobs and processes the jobs applying knowledge of specific departmental procedures, Company policies, manufacturing processes, and fixture design.

Communicates with customers in a clear and timely manner to provide estimates on new and repeating manufactured components.

Designs tooling and fixturing to meet production demands and print requirements.

Acquires purchased components and raw materials to have made into tooling and fixturing as necessary.

Interprets specifications, drawings, and industry standards, then creates dated prints and process routers to meet these various requirements.

Creates and maintains dated prints, making improvements and adjustments to these as new techniques, skills, measuring equipment, and machines are acquired.

Creates Bill of Materials (BOM's) for sub-parts, sub-assemblies, and purchased components per customer requirements.

For revision changes from customers, creates new dated prints, updates BOM's, and changes process router to new revision.

Establishes or adjusts work process and equipment to meet production schedules by using knowledge of departments, Company procedures, customer requirements, and equipment.

Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, suggests changes in working conditions, and use of equipment to increase efficiency of a department or a work cell.

Interprets company policies and safety regulations to help make improvements in the process, layout, tooling, or any other means necessary to ensure a safe and productive work environment.

Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems, including Quality defects originating from the Production Floor. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

Maintains engineering records as required.

Attends production and Leadership Team meetings, as well as corporate communication meetings and Company training sessions.

Confers with others to coordinate activities of individual departments when necessary.

Builds rapport with others and motivates workers to obtain best results.

Analyzes drawings, solid model, sketches, and design data of parts to determine configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates, according to knowledge of machine shop processes, part specifications, and machine capabilities.

Determines reference points and direction of machine cutting paths. Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, then outlines sequence of tool cuts required to machine part.

Writes Setup Sheets to show alignment of geometry from CNC program to physical workpiece inside machine workspace.

Writes Tool Lists that match CNC program geometries to the proper tools within those programs. Tool Lists to include any unique information to set the tools such as flute length, custom grinds, etc.

Writes program of machine instructions in -G- Code, Conversational, or other machine language to control movement of machine along cutting path. Revises program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions. Observes operation of machine on trial run to prove programmed instructions and verifies cycle times are accurate with quoted times.

Communicates with machine operators, setup personnel, other engineering personnel, Shop supervisor to receive instructions, coordinate activities and resolve issues.

Works independently, but as part of a team, with minimal oversight.

Attends work in person, on time, on a regular and reliable basis.

Completes all tasks in an accurate, complete, and timely manner. Is detail oriented.

Follows all company policies. Asks questions to clarify if needs more information.

Follows all safety protocols, helps others follow all safety protocols and alerts upper management to any safety risks that are discovered.

Focuses on continuous improvement in all projects and in every initiative undertaken by the Manufacturing Engineering Dept.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Training and Experience: B.S. in Engineering preferred, experience in manufacturing is a plus but not required. Machined part quoting is beneficial.

Computer Skills: Ability to enter and retrieve data from computer using company ERP system, Microsoft Office, and CAD software such as SolidWorks, etc. Prior use of CAM software is beneficial.

Reading and Comprehension: Ability to interpret and understand instructions in written, oral, diagram, charts, graphs, or schedule form, safety rules, drawings, set up sheets, process sheets and other documents. Ability to write routine reports.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Good working knowledge of shop math including trig and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited information exists.

Physical Demands: The employee is required to:

- stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.

- exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or

- exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or

- exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Visual Acuity: Ability to read or otherwise obtain information from blueprints, computer screens, and precision measuring instruments.

Communication: Ability to understand and be understood in communications with others. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, workers, and management in both written and oral form.

Working Conditions: the employee is subject to:

- high noise levels from operating machines

- physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts

- breathing fumes, dust and mist

- skin exposure to oils and cutting fluid

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

From time-to-time the employee may be required to follow other R B Machine, Inc.-related instructions and to perform other R B Machine, Inc.-related duties and responsibilities that are in addition to the above job description.
