JK Executive Strategies is proud to partner with a growing nonprofit, local to Rochester, in search of an Accountant to join its team!

Our client offers over 30 programs in the areas of youth services, services for the developmentally disabled, economic development, employment services, family and children services, education, homeownership, and entrepreneurial assistance, serving over 25,000+ community members.

The Accountant will work closely with the CFO and team, with responsibilities including, but not limited to: assisting with accounting and reporting procedures for the organization, as well as assisting with a variety of accounting functions across the finance department, including grant vouchers/billings, accounts payable, grants, accounts receivable, and banking operation. The Accountant will also be responsible for the timely monthly closing process and maintain controls to ensure the integrity of activity within the organization's financial systems.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates the monthly closing cycle by establishing a team environment. Ensures timely and accurate information is maintained and established deadlines are met.
  • Responsible for the preparation and review of the monthly financial results, including detailed trial balance activity, month end income statements, balance sheets and cash flow activity.
  • Responsible for coordinating the monthly financial review and reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts within the trial balance. Ensures all necessary adjustments are recorded timely and accurately.
  • Prepares monthly department budget vs. actual reporting. Assists in analysis.
  • Supervises the responsibilities of Accounts Payable. This includes ensuring that accounts payable processes support control objectives.
  • Responsible for coordination with the organization's external accountants for the annual review of the Company's financial statements.
  • Collaborates with other Finance team members providing necessary assistance to the Revenue, AR, Billing, and Payroll activities.
  • Responsible for filling of certain periodic statutory reports and maintenance of the necessary registrations.
  • Serves as an expert accounting resource to the organization.
  • Assist with ensuring that adequate cross-training within the Finance department has been completed.
  • Uphold organization's values and a positive role model for employees.
  • Uphold and promote awareness of the organization's policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional related responsibilities as requested.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field and/or 3+ years of relevant experience
  • 3+ years of experience in accounting and bookkeeping
  • Experience in accounting for Non-Profit organizations highly desired (not required).
  • Experience with accounting software, especially Fund EZ or QuickBooks, highly desired.
  • Proven history of demonstrating a solid understanding of financial accounting (U.S. GAAP), excellent analytical skills, strong knowledge of controls / processes, excellent judgment, and financial acumen.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, MS Access, and SharePoint proficiency and skills.
  • Project management and system implementation experience, preferred.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with, manage and prioritize multiple deadlines.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability work under pressure of deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • High level of accuracy and excellent attention to details.
  • High level of confidentiality and ethical standards.

Salary Range
  • $60k - $70k
